Florida States Coaching Search Just Took A Notable Turn

Eli Drinkwitz remains committed to Missouri despite Florida State's coaching vacancy, turning focus to their crucial game against Texas.

Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz made it clear on Tuesday that he’s not going anywhere, at least not in the direction Florida State rumors have pointed.

With Florida State moving on from Mike Norvell after Saturday’s 36-24 loss to Clemson, Drinkwitz’s name quickly surfaced in the coaching chatter. He didn’t leave much room for interpretation when asked about it.

“I’m not a candidate at Florida State. I want to clear that up,” Drinkwitz said on Tuesday, per SEC Mike on X. “Let’s focus on the main thing, which is Texas, and let’s eliminate all the distractions and clutter from that standpoint.”

Florida State fired Norvell on Sunday, two days after the Clemson loss pushed the Seminoles to a breaking point in his seventh season. Former Florida State quarterback Rick Stockstill is serving as the interim head coach.

Norvell’s run at Florida State ended with a 41-39 record, but the recent results told the bigger story. He won only 10 games over the last three seasons, including 2026.

Drinkwitz, meanwhile, has Missouri rolling in a different lane. He’s in his seventh season with the Tigers and owns a 52-31 record at Mizzou. His best year came in 2023, when Missouri finished 11-2 and beat Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl.

This season has Missouri sitting at 6-2 and ranked No. 19, with a massive test coming Saturday at home against No. 10 Texas. The Tigers still have a path to a College Football Playoff push, and Drinkwitz has made it plain where his attention is right now.

Kickoff is set for noon ET on ESPN.

Clemson Is Saying Goodbye To Armon Mason Under Tough Circumstances

Armon Masons Clemson career is ending the hard way, with the veteran defensive end announcing his medical retirement from football after a run of injuries that kept interrupting what had once looked like a promising path. A sixth-year player and the son of late NBA standout Anthony Mason, he had already missed two of the past three seasons, a frustrating stretch that made it increasingly difficult to get any real momentum on the field.

Mason still plans to stay with the Tigers through Senior Day before stepping away from the sport for good, giving Clemson one more chance to recognize a player who battled through far more than most. For a program that has watched him fight to keep coming back, his exit is as much about resilience as it is about the injuries that ultimately forced the decision. [Read more 🡒]

Clemsons Syracuse Test Just Got Tougher Than Fans Expected

Clemsons trip to Syracuse was already shaping up as a tricky ACC road test, and Dabo Swinneys latest injury update only adds to the challenge. The Tigers are dealing with several key absences up front and on defense, with guard Elyjah Thurmon and center Harris Sewell both set to miss time, the latter needing minor surgery. True freshman Grant Wise is now in line to start at center, a significant adjustment for a unit trying to hold together in a tough spot on the schedule.

The changes do not stop there. Starting running back Gideon Davidson is expected to sit out the upcoming game, which pushes Jarvis Green into the lead role in the backfield, while linebacker Kobe McCloud is also unavailable and will open more snaps for Fletcher Cothran. For Clemson, the concern is not just who is out, but how quickly the replacements can settle in against a Syracuse team that figures to test the Tigers depth in a hurry. [Read more 🡒]

Dabo Swinney Had A Strong Reaction To Mike Norvells Firing

A banner flying above Doak Campbell Stadium demanding Mike Norvells firing drew a sharp response from Dabo Swinney, who called the display embarrassing and disrespectful. The Clemson coach, speaking with the kind of bluntness that usually cuts through the noise, also acknowledged the pressure that comes with the job and said he understood why Florida State moved on after a 3-5 start to the 2026 season.

What bothered Swinney was not just the message, but the way it was delivered, with Norvells name misspelled and a call for the firing of Florida State Board of Trustees Chairman Peter Collins, who is not in a firable position. It was a messy scene around a program already under strain, and Swinneys reaction added another layer to a situation that has become as much about optics and public frustration as it is about football.
