European Star Makes Shock ACC Admission

Discover how international basketball standout Robert Jurkovic is adapting his game and lifestyle for success at NC State under Coach Gainey's dynamic leadership.

Robert Jurkovic didn’t need long to explain why NC State felt right. The European big man pointed first to the staff’s approach, then to the way the Wolfpack presented the opportunity, and he said that combination made the move across the Atlantic an easy one to embrace.

“They were really involved. Every time we wanted to get on Zoom, they were like, “Yeah, let’s set it up. When does it work for you?””

“We’ve had talks. The energy that I felt from not just Coach Gainey but the whole staff, and how they presented it all, just felt really, really great.”

Jurkovic is settling into life in the United States as he prepares for the 2026-27 season, and he says the adjustment has gone beyond basketball. The food, the culture and the daily routine have all been different, but he feels he’s handled the change well.

“It’s definitely been a pretty big adjustment. A whole different culture, different foods, different everything.

But I think I’ve adjusted pretty well. I’ve gotten into the rhythm, and I’ll just go up from here.”

As for American food, Jurkovic kept it light.

“I like most of the food. I wouldn’t say it’s better than back home. Please don’t hate me, people.”

On the court, the biggest change has been pace. Jurkovic said the game in Gainey’s program moves faster than what he was used to overseas, where possessions are more deliberate and structured.

“I feel the biggest transition and the biggest difference is the speed of play. I feel the speed of play here is a lot quicker.

We want to get up and down the floor a lot quicker than in Europe. We kind of get over half court, set up a system and then play.”

That quicker tempo is part of what NC State is asking of him, but Jurkovic also believes his own game fits the frontcourt well. He described himself as someone who can think the game at a high level, knock down shots and stretch the floor from the big spot, while also bringing the kind of perspective that comes from experience.

“I would say I have a pretty high basketball IQ. I have a good jump shot, so I can stretch the floor from the big spot, and just a kind of veteran perspective, I guess. I don’t know how to phrase it better.”

Between the staff’s outreach, the fast-moving style and the chance to use his skill set in a new setting, Jurkovic found plenty to like about NC State. Now the focus is on continuing to settle in and building from there.

Clemson's Bye Week Suddenly Comes With Serious ACC Stakes

Clemsons bye week has arrived at a pretty useful time, not just for rest and regrouping but because the ACC picture around the Tigers is starting to take shape in a hurry. At 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play, Clemson is still hanging around the edges of the playoff conversation, and the path back gets clearer or messier depending on what happens across the league over the next few Saturdays.

Florida State visiting Louisville, North Carolina heading to Pittsburgh, and Duke traveling to Georgia Tech are all the kind of ACC games Clemson fans will be watching closely, because the results could matter later when the Tigers are sorting out their own place in the standings. With several possible future opponents involved, this bye week is as much about scoreboard watching as it is about recovery, and the conference could shift in ways that make Clemsons own margin for error even thinner. Clemson Just Entered A Fight That Could Shape Its ACC Future

Clemson has stepped into a bigger college sports fight, joining three other ACC schools in pressing Congress over the Protect College Sports Act. The university said it supports the bill overall, but it also made clear it has concerns with a realignment provision that would limit how conferences can be structured, adding another layer to an already messy debate over the future of league membership and control.

Along with the other schools, Clemson sent a letter to U.S. House leadership asking for changes to the bills language on conference membership caps and independence requirements. The push drew criticism from Saving College Sports, which accused the schools of trying to weaken the bills protections against conference realignment, leaving Clemson caught in a dispute that could have real consequences for the ACCs long-term stability. Clemson Just Took Another Recruiting Hit Fans Wont Ignore

Clemsons recruiting run took another public turn this week when linebacker RJ Hudson, a three-star prospect from Richmond, Virginia, backed off his pledge after originally committing in June. Hudson had been part of the Tigers 2026 class picture, but his decision adds another layer of concern as the staff continues to navigate a cycle that has already featured some turbulence on the trail.

Hudson now appears to be leaning toward Texas as a late option, leaving Clemson to regroup once again. The timing matters because this comes on the heels of another notable setback, with four-star offensive lineman Sam Walker choosing Georgia Tech, a reminder that the Tigers are still fighting to hold the class together while other programs keep pressing for key targets.
