Clemson's basketball team is facing some changes as starting forward Jake Wahlin announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on April 7. Wahlin, who made the move to Clemson from Utah, is looking to explore new opportunities with one year of eligibility left.
Standing tall at 6-foot-10, Wahlin made his presence felt on the court, averaging 5.3 points per game with shooting percentages of 40.3% from the field and 34% from beyond the arc. He also contributed 3.9 rebounds per game over 35 appearances, including 29 starts.
His defensive skills were a key asset, often tasked with guarding the opposing team's top perimeter forward. However, his offensive output varied throughout the season.
Wahlin's standout performance came with a season-high 17 points on February 18. Yet, as the season wound down, his scoring dipped, and he didn't hit double figures in Clemson's final eight games, seeing his playing time decrease.
The Tigers, who finished with a 24-11 record and made their third consecutive appearance in the Men's NCAA Tournament, now face the challenge of filling the gap left by Wahlin and five seniors who have exhausted their eligibility. This leaves Clemson with 10 roster spots filled and five open slots for the 2026-27 season, after utilizing 13 spots in the previous year.
As Clemson looks to rebuild, the departure of Wahlin marks a pivotal moment for the team, opening the door for new talent and strategic adjustments. Fans will be eager to see how the Tigers navigate these changes and prepare for the upcoming season.
