Clemson kept its 2028 recruiting push rolling Saturday night, landing on one of the cycle’s top names when Wetumpka tight end Kaleb Ballard announced he had received an offer from the Tigers.
Ballard becomes the 23rd recruit to pick up an offer from Clemson and the second pass-catcher on that list, joining five-star wide receiver Braylon Clark. The offer adds another major school to a rapidly growing board for a prospect who has become one of the most sought-after players in the country.
According to Rivals rankings, Ballard is a four-star recruit, the No. 34 overall player, the No. 1 tight end and the No. 2 prospect in Alabama.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound standout started drawing national attention after a breakout sophomore season at Wetumpka High School. In 11 games, he posted 32 catches for 573 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Ballard already had Troy on his list before the season, but the floodgates really opened after 2025 ended. He picked up offers from Purdue, Tennessee State, Virginia Tech and Florida State in December and January, with those scholarships coming after Junior Day visits.
The momentum kept building through the spring. Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Florida and Georgia Tech all joined the mix, and Ballard kept making the rounds on unofficial visits to Mississippi State, UAB, Auburn, Purdue, Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Florida State.
This summer has brought even more movement. Ballard has visited Georgia, Clemson, LSU, Mississippi State, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss and Florida in that order, while also adding new offers from UCLA, LSU, NC State, Ole Miss and now Clemson.
For now, the in-state powers are still the schools to watch. Auburn is listed as the front-runner with a 15.5% chance to land Ballard, followed by Alabama at 13.6%, according to the Rivals Prediction Machine. Mississippi State sits next at 11.7%, while Florida State and Florida are tied at 9.7%.
Ballard’s profile goes beyond football, too. He also turned in a huge basketball season for the Indians, averaging 16 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks per game in 2025.
Clemson’s 2028 class is moving fast, and Ballard is now firmly part of the conversation.
