Clemson’s push for 2028 interior offensive lineman Sam Walker is starting to look like a real battle to win.
Just days after the Tigers picked up their first commitment in the 2028 class from four-star quarterback Trace Hawkins, another major target moved a step closer to a decision on Sunday afternoon. Walker, a Central High School standout from Carrollton, Georgia, trimmed his list to three schools: Clemson, South Carolina and Georgia Tech, according to his X account.
At 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds, Walker carries the kind of profile that makes him a priority for any staff. Rivals has him as a consensus four-star prospect, the No. 53 player overall, the No. 4 interior offensive lineman and the No. 8 recruit in Georgia.
Walker has spent the past two seasons as one of the pillars up front for Central in Carrollton. His recruitment started to take off early, too.
By February 2025, he had already picked up his first four offers from Appalachian State, Kennesaw State, Georgia Southern and Tennessee. That spring brought visits to Georgia Southern, Tennessee and Alabama, and soon after came offers from South Carolina in May and Georgia in June.
His profile kept rising from there. He checked out Georgia for its season opener against Marshall in September, then added more momentum during his junior year with an Alabama offer during the Vanderbilt game. Additional visits followed to Florida State, Georgia Tech and South Carolina.
Once the season ended, the offers only kept stacking up. Walker earned his four-star ranking and drew interest from programs such as Florida, Ohio State, Ole Miss, LSU, Texas A&M and Miami. He also made trips to Duke, Gainesville, Auburn and Oxford as he continued to sort through his options.
Clemson came in later than some of the others, officially offering in mid-June, but the connection has apparently been building for a while. Offensive line coach Matt Luke and the staff have worked on Walker over the past two seasons, including visits to see him at games in 2024 and 2025 before returning again this summer.
That early attention matters. Walker was one of the first offensive linemen to get an offer in the class, a sign of how much Luke values him.
For now, Clemson appears to be in the best position. Walker said last month the Tigers were the early favorite, and On3’s Chad Simmons also logged an expert prediction in Clemson’s favor.
Still, the Tigers aren’t alone at the front of the line. South Carolina and Georgia Tech remain in the mix, and Walker’s recruitment is only going to heat up as the season rolls on.

The Tigers have responded by remaking the safety room with transfer additions Jerome Carter III and Corey Myrick, but the questions around depth and playmaking remain part of the conversation.
