Clemson’s 2027 recruiting class got a fresh jolt this week, and ESPN’s latest national rankings show the Tigers moving into elite territory.
The biggest reason for the climb is four-star safety Jayden Aparicio-Bailey, who committed to Clemson and helped push the class up to No. 13 nationally. The Alabama prospect is ranked No. 210 overall by ESPN, is the No. 15 safety in the country, and checks in at No. 10 in his home state.
That commitment gives Clemson 24 pledges in the 2027 cycle, tying the Tigers for 17th-most among FBS programs. The class is loaded with four-star talent, too: Clemson has 11 four-star prospects, which puts it in a tie for ninth nationally. Eight of those commits are also included in the SC Next 300.
The top of the class is anchored by quarterback Kharim Hughley and defensive end Desmond Malpress, both of whom earned 82 grades from ESPN’s scouts.
Clemson’s national standing lines up across the major recruiting services as well. The Tigers are No. 13 in the 247Sports Composite, No. 11 in 247’s own rankings, and No. 15 in the Rivals Composite.
Across the ACC, only Miami is ranked higher. Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and California also cracked the national top 25, but Clemson remains right there among the league’s best.
The broader national picture still has several heavyweights waiting on their first five-star commitment for 2027. Notre Dame, Miami, Oklahoma, Michigan, Auburn, Ole Miss, and LSU are all in that group. On the other side, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Texas, and Texas Tech have already landed 70 percent of ESPN’s five-star talent, with the Aggies sitting atop the team rankings.

DeAndre Hopkins Rumor Could Boost Clemsons NFL Footprint In A Big Way
DeAndre Hopkins is still one of the more intriguing Clemson names on the NFL market, and the latest chatter around the veteran wideout gives Tigers fans another reason to keep an eye on where he lands. A free agent now, Hopkins has made it clear he is chasing a Super Bowl ring in 2026, and his evolving role has shifted from every-down centerpiece to more of a utility and third-down option as his career moves into its next phase.
For Clemson, the appeal goes beyond nostalgia. Hopkins remains the kind of former Tiger whose next stop can ripple back to the program, especially if he ends up joining a contender with a growing Clemson presence. His recent production was well below his standards, but the bigger question now is fit, role and whether the right team sees enough left in the tank to make one more run with him. [Read more 🡒]
National Analyst Just Took Clemson's Dabo Debate To Another Level
The latest round of Dabo Swinney debate picked up again after ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum took aim at Clemsons place in the national picture, questioning whether the Tigers still belong in the championship conversation after a 7-6 season in 2025. Finebaum also cast doubt on the value of Swinneys recent extension, using Alabama coach Kalen DeBoers new deal as a contrast point while suggesting the market has moved in a different direction for elite jobs.
For Clemson, the criticism lands in a familiar place because Swinneys rsum still carries real weight, even if the recent results have given skeptics plenty of ammunition. The tension now is less about what he has already done and more about what the next step looks like, with Finebaum openly doubting whether the Tigers can climb back into the top tier under the current setup. These Clemson Position Groups Give Dabo His Best Shot To Rebound
Clemson heads into 2026 with a lot to prove after a 7-6 finish and the loss of 14 starters, but there are a few places on the roster where Dabo Swinney can still lean on real talent. The biggest reason for optimism starts at receiver, where Bryant Wesco Jr. and T.J. Moore give the Tigers a proven foundation in a room that should help settle a new-look offense under Chad Morris.
There is similar hope in the backfield and off the edge, two areas that could keep Clemson from feeling too thin as it tries to rebuild around all that turnover. The Tigers added help through the portal and will need it, but the combination of returning pieces and fresh arrivals gives this team a better shot than most to stabilize quickly, even if the bigger question is whether those strengths are enough to carry them back into the ACC race.
