Clemson and Syracuse are headed for another tight one, at least if the numbers are telling the story.
Versus Sports Simulator has this matchup landing right on the knife’s edge, with Clemson projected to escape the JMA Wireless Dome with a 26-25 win on Saturday afternoon. That fits the pattern these two have built over time: a game that usually turns into a scrap, whether it was Syracuse’s upset in Memorial Stadium last week or the 2022 meeting when backup quarterback Cade Klubnik helped keep Clemson undefeated.
The model has bounced around on this one for a while. After Clemson’s sluggish start to the season, especially following the win over Georgia Southern, Syracuse was getting the edge by a 62% margin. Since Clemson’s bye week, though, the projection has hovered around even and has flipped back and forth from one team to the other nearly every week.
Home field matters a lot in the simulation, too. Versus gives Syracuse plenty of credit for the crowd in upstate New York. If this game were at Memorial Stadium, Clemson would be given a 64% chance to win, with the projected margin landing at about six points.
The Tigers’ offense is still the part the model wants to see more from. Clemson gets only a C+ on that side of the ball, with the attack going through ups and downs under new offensive coordinator Chad Morris and true freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds. Still, Clemson comes in off its best offensive showing in ACC play, scoring 36 points on Florida State and leaving Tallahassee with a win.
Defense has been Clemson’s steadier strength, and the model grades that unit as a B+.
Syracuse, meanwhile, has been leaning on its offense lately with starting quarterback Steve Angeli back. The Orange offense gets a B- grade from the model.
The betting market has been pointing to a close game all week, with Clemson favored by less than a field goal. The advanced numbers are on the same page.
Kickoff is set for noon Saturday from Syracuse, with ESPN2 carrying the game.

Dawn Staleys Clemson Visit Had A Personal Twist Gamecocks Fans Will Notice
Dawn Staley made a quiet but notable appearance at Clemson on Friday night, showing up to support her godson, Madden Collins, as American University took on the Tigers. Staley, who was spotted in an American hoodie, had spent part of the day with her own South Carolina team in practice before heading over to watch Collins, who led the Eagles with 23 points in the loss.
For Clemson fans, the visit added an unexpected layer to an otherwise straightforward nonconference game, with one of the sports biggest names in attendance for a personal reason. Collins gave the Tigers a real test on the floor, and Staleys presence served as a reminder of how tightly connected the basketball world can be, even when the teams and colors dont line up neatly. The Citadel Suddenly Looks Like A Different Team After Rough Opener
The Citadel needed a response after a rough opener, and it found one in emphatic fashion against Erskine. Tyler Mrus poured in a career-high 27 points to pace a 100-57 win, while freshman Aaron Ekwere added 14 points and seven rebounds as the Bulldogs controlled the game from start to finish with efficient shooting, physical rebounding and a defense that never let the margin get close.
What stood out most was how complete the performance was. The Citadel shot 55.7 percent from the floor and owned a 51-21 edge on the glass, the kind of across-the-board dominance that can change the tone around a team quickly. After the opener raised questions, this was the sort of bounce-back that gives the Bulldogs something to build on, even if the real test of how much they learned is still ahead. [Read more 🡒]
Clemson Kept Its ACC Hopes Alive Despite One Lingering Problem
Clemson left the JMA Wireless Dome with an 18-6 ACC win over Syracuse, a result that kept the Tigers conference hopes moving in the right direction while leaning on the kind of complementary football they have needed at times this season. The defense forced two turnovers, and true freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds provided a steady spark with 161 passing yards and 58 more on the ground.
Still, the game also carried the familiar reminder that Clemson has not fully solved everything in the kicking game. Junior Nolan Hauser tied a program record with 27 field goals this season, a mark that speaks to both his volume and the Tigers reliance on him in tight spots as the stretch run continues.
