Clemson Expands 2027 Recruiting With Key Visit to Top Tackle Prospect

Clemsons coaching staff is making strategic inroads on the 2027 recruiting trail, targeting top national talent with a flurry of personal visits and new offers.

Clemson’s coaching staff continues to hit the recruiting trail hard, and the Tigers just added two more names to their growing list of 2025 targets. That brings the offer count to 43 - a number that reflects just how aggressive and focused this staff is as it reloads for the future.

Offensive line coach Matt Luke is leading the charge, and he’s not exactly easing into this cycle. On Wednesday, Luke was on the road again, this time alongside head coach Dabo Swinney, to check in on Maxwell Hiller - the nation’s top-ranked offensive tackle, per 247Sports.

Hiller, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound five-star talent, already holds an offer from Clemson, which came last June following a strong camp performance. And while his offer sheet reads like a who's who of college football powerhouses, Clemson is firmly in the mix.

Luke’s approach this cycle has been clear: go big or go home. All eight offensive linemen he’s offered so far are ranked in the Top247 nationally.

That’s not by accident - it’s a calculated push to bring elite talent into the trenches. If he can land even a few of those targets, the Tigers’ offensive line group could be one of the best in the country by signing day.

Elsewhere, Clemson is keeping its eyes on versatile athletes who can fill multiple roles. On Wednesday, defensive backs coach Thomas Allen stopped by Providence High School in Charlotte to visit Keland Shelton Jr., a three-star athlete who brings a lot to the table. At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Shelton currently plays both wide receiver and defensive back, but Clemson is recruiting him as a hybrid safety - someone who can cover ground, hit, and match up against modern offenses.

Shelton’s recruitment is gaining steam. He’s set to visit Tennessee this weekend for a junior day and has shown strong interest in Virginia as well. Still, Clemson’s early involvement and positional vision could give them an edge as things develop.

Bottom line: Clemson isn’t just casting a wide net - they’re targeting high-upside, high-character players who fit their system. And with coaches like Matt Luke and Thomas Allen making the rounds, the Tigers are putting themselves in position for another strong recruiting haul.
