Chattanooga Lookouts first baseman Ruben Ibarra is making a serious statement in the Mexican Pacific League, and he’s done it fast.
Ibarra didn’t even open the season on the Naranjeros de Hermosillo roster when the Mexican Winter League began on October 14th. He joined the club after its fourth game, then wasted no time making an impression.
In his first game with Hermosillo on October 18th, the 6′ 5″, 307 lb. slugger launched two homers and knocked in seven runs. He’s been rolling ever since.
The power keeps coming. On Wednesday night, Ibarra went deep twice.
On Thursday night, he added another homer. That surge has pushed the player who hit 25 home runs in Double-A Chattanooga this past season to the top of the Mexican Winter League home run leaderboard with eight.
The production goes well beyond the long ball. Through 15 games, Ibarra is 20-for-59, good for a .339 batting average.
He’s also drawn eight walks, which has lifted his on-base percentage to .426. His slugging percentage sits at .797, and his OPS is 1.223.
He’s leading the Mexican Winter League in slugging percentage, ranks seventh in batting average, and sits second in OPS. He has collected hits in 13 of the 15 games he’s played. In one of the two games where he didn’t record a hit, he still reached base twice by going 0-for-1 with two walks.
With that kind of start, Ibarra has put himself in the conversation for the league’s MVP. If he keeps this form into 2027, he could also put himself in line for an assignment to Triple-A Louisville after spring training.
Elsewhere in the Reds’ pipeline, the Arizona Fall Stars Game is set for Sunday at 8 pm EST on MLB Network, and Cincinnati will be represented by three prospects: pitcher Luke Holman, shortstop Carlos Sanchez, and outfielder Yerlin Confidan. All three earned their spots. Last year, the Reds also had three players in the 2025 AFL Fall Stars Game: Alfredo Duno, Cam Collier, and Leo Balcazar.
Confidan will have another chance to shine on Saturday night, when the Arizona Fall Stars Home Run Derby takes place at 8 pm EST on MLB Network. The Fall Stars stage gives those Reds prospects a chance to show off and show out on MLB Network.

Reds May Have Found An Affordable Rotation Answer Fans Will Debate
The Reds are heading into an offseason with rotation questions that are easy to spot and hard to solve cheaply. Chase Burns, Andrew Abbott and Nick Lodolo look like the only sure things at the top of the group, which leaves Cincinnati shopping for help that can stabilize the middle without forcing the club into a major spending spree.
One name that fits that profile is David Peterson, a left-hander who rebuilt his value after being traded to the Cubs in 2026 and now profiles as a possible mid-rotation add. His mix could make sense for Great American Ball Park, where keeping the ball on the ground and limiting damage matters, and that is exactly why he is the sort of pitcher the Reds can talk themselves into even if the fit is not universally popular. Reds Face A Big Tyler Stephenson Decision This Offseason
The Reds offseason already has a few moving parts, and Tyler Stephenson sits near the center of them. The veteran catcher is a free agent, but Cincinnati has reasons to keep the conversation going after valuing his steady production and the stability he has provided behind the plate. Around the league, there is a sense that a short-term reunion makes plenty of sense for both sides.
Stephensons situation also ties into the clubs longer view at catcher, where the Reds are still waiting for Alfredo Duno to be ready for the next step. For now, the front office has to balance present-day reliability with future planning, and Stephenson remains one of the cleaner decisions on the board even if the final call is still to come. Reds Could Get Pushed Out Of A Crucial Outfield Chase
The Reds have been tied to the outfield market this offseason, and Jarren Duran has emerged as a name worth watching if Boston decides to move him. Cincinnati has obvious need in the grass and enough ambition to check on a player who could help right away, but the Red Sox are still weighing their options and the market around Duran is already starting to take shape.
San Diego has been circling, and that matters because the Padres have the kind of motivation that can quickly change the price. There is also a Reds angle on the Boston side of the discussion, since the Red Sox have shown interest in Elly De La Cruz, which could keep the framework of any potential talks in play even as Cincinnati waits to see whether it can stay in the chase.
