The Cincinnati Reds added two arms to the organization on Thursday, claiming right-handers Ron Marinaccio and Chase Solesky off waivers while moving outfielder Blake Dunn to the 60-day injured list.
Marinaccio came over from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Solesky was claimed from the Tampa Bay Rays and then optioned to Triple-A Louisville. To make the roster math work, Cincinnati transferred Dunn to the 60-day IL.
Marinaccio, 31, has bounced between the San Diego Padres and Pirates this season and has posted a 4.99 ERA in 37 appearances. A University of Delaware product, he was originally taken by the New York Yankees in the 19th round of the 2017 MLB Draft and has now appeared in parts of five major league seasons.
Solesky is 27 and was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 21st round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Tulane University. He made his big league debut with the Rays earlier this season and appeared in just one major league game for Tampa Bay. Most of his 2026 work has come at Triple-A, where he owns a 6.79 ERA across 54 1/3 innings in 23 appearances.
Dunn’s move to the 60-day injured list follows internal brace surgery on his right elbow. Manager Terry Francona said the procedure carries an expected recovery timeline of about six months, which ends Dunn’s 2026 season.
With Hunter Greene recently placed on the injured list, Marinaccio is expected to join the active roster once he arrives in Cincinnati.
The moves come as the Reds keep pushing forward in the standings. Since the All-Star break, they’ve gone 12-6 and won five of their first six series in the second half for the first time since 2016. They enter Thursday’s game three games under .500, their closest to even since June 27.
Cincinnati is also sitting one game behind third place in the National League Central and just a half-game back of the fourth-place Pirates. In the Wild Card race, the Reds are 4.5 games out of the third and final National League spot.
