The Seattle Mariners are making moves - and this one’s all about bolstering the bullpen.
In a trade with the Cincinnati Reds, Seattle sent pitching prospect Dusty Revis in exchange for right-hander Yosver Zulueta, a 27-year-old with big-league experience and a power arm. The deal was officially announced Thursday evening, and it signals that the Mariners are looking to add some immediate depth to their relief corps.
Zulueta isn’t a household name yet, but he brings some intriguing tools to the table. Over the past two seasons, he’s appeared in 19 MLB games, logging 23.2 innings with 25 strikeouts and a 5.32 ERA.
That ERA might raise eyebrows, but the underlying stuff is what caught Seattle’s attention. Zulueta averages 96.3 mph on his fastball and has shown flashes of swing-and-miss potential.
At 6-foot-1, he’s compact but explosive, and the Mariners are clearly betting on their pitching development staff to help him take the next step.
Originally from Cuba, Zulueta signed with Toronto back in 2019 and has bounced between the minors and the majors since. Now, he gets a fresh start in the Pacific Northwest, where the Mariners have quietly built one of the more respected pitching pipelines in the league. If Zulueta can harness his command and tighten up his secondary pitches, he could become a valuable middle-innings weapon - or more.
To make room on the 40-man roster, Seattle designated infielder Samad Taylor for assignment. That’s no small move.
Taylor had a standout 2025 season in Triple-A, slashing .296 with 124 runs scored, 27 doubles, seven triples, 17 home runs, 86 RBIs, 44 stolen bases and 73 walks. He’s a versatile defender who can handle multiple infield and outfield spots, so it wouldn’t be surprising if another team scoops him up off waivers.
But with Seattle’s infield depth and the need to add a live arm like Zulueta, Taylor became the roster casualty.
On the flip side of the deal, the Reds are getting a young arm with upside in Dusty Revis. The 22-year-old right-hander was an 11th-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft out of Western Carolina.
He hasn’t yet made his pro debut, but the Reds are clearly intrigued by his potential. Revis is more of a long-term play - raw, projectable, and likely ticketed for the lower minors to start - but Cincinnati has shown a willingness to invest in developmental arms.
For the Mariners, this trade is a clear signal: they’re not waiting around to see how the bullpen shakes out. They’re acting early, looking for arms with upside who can contribute now and grow into bigger roles later. Zulueta fits that mold - and if he clicks, this could be a quietly savvy mid-winter pickup.
