Eugenio Suárez is riding high after clinching the winning run for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, and now he's back with the Cincinnati Reds at their Arizona camp. Tonight, he’s set to rejoin the Reds' lineup as they face off against the Chicago Cubs in Mesa.
Brandon Williamson will be taking the mound, having secured his spot on the Opening Day roster. The Reds have decided to go with all three young pitchers who were vying for that coveted fifth rotation spot. Suárez will be manning third base, as the team is keen on getting him some defensive reps, rather than limiting him to designated hitter duties.
The Reds are mixing things up in their lineup, with Sal Stewart starting at first base and Spencer Steer getting a chance to showcase his skills in left field.
The game kicks off at 9:05 PM ET, and with Arizona experiencing a heat wave, fans are hoping for a cooler evening as the game progresses.
Unfortunately, this matchup won’t be on TV, but you can catch all the action on 700 WLW or follow along with Gameday updates.
A nod to Doug Gray from Redleg Nation for sharing the travel roster, which includes non-roster powerhouse Nate Lowe on the bench. His presence on the road suggests he’s still in contention for a spot on the Opening Day roster, a promising sign for the slugger.
