Willie Anderson Stuns Fans With Upcoming Kidney Transplant Announcement

Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist Willie Anderson prepares for a life-changing kidney transplant, hoping to return to his passion for coaching and secure his place in football history.

CINCINNATI - Willie Anderson, the former Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle and a 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist, has shared some personal news with fans. He announced on social media that he’s set to undergo a kidney transplant on March 3 in Atlanta.

Anderson, who’s 50, has been battling kidney disease for about a decade. It all started with a high blood pressure diagnosis in his late 30s, and by 40, he learned about his kidney issues. “I thought I had it under control for a while,” Anderson explained, but his condition worsened over the past two years.

Last summer, Anderson took proactive steps by getting on the transplant list at both Duke University and Emory University. In an unexpected twist, his partner turned out to be a perfect donor match. “Never in a million years did I think I’d be in this position,” he shared, expressing gratitude for the close connection that led to this life-saving match.

A Bengals Ring of Honor member, Anderson has always been a force on and off the field. He’s eager to get back to coaching and training young athletes at the Willie Anderson Lineman Academy, once he’s recovered.

During his illustrious career, Anderson was a four-time Pro Bowl player and a three-time All-Pro selection, making him one of the most dominant tackles from 1996 to 2008. Drafted 10th overall by the Bengals in 1996, he played in 195 games, starting 184, and allowed just 16 sacks-a testament to his prowess on the field.

An Auburn University All-American, Anderson dreams of donning a gold jacket in Canton. He’s been a finalist for the Hall of Fame for five consecutive years, and he’s particularly touched by the support of Bengals fans. “I’ll be so happy more for the fans of the Bengals,” he said, acknowledging their unwavering support and advocacy for his Hall of Fame candidacy.

With his upcoming transplant, Anderson’s focus is on a healthy recovery, fueled by the love and prayers of those around him. His journey is a reminder of the resilience and community spirit that sports can inspire.
