“If it doesn’t go well in Cincinnati this year, Joe Burrow is gone,” Wilson said on NFL Today. He doubled down by saying Burrow is tired of losing and believes the quarterback wants out.
That line lit up fast. NFL on CBS posted the clip, and Bengals fans came after Wilson almost immediately, treating the comment less like analysis and more like a former quarterback chasing attention.

The reaction was especially pointed because Burrow had already addressed the chatter earlier in the week. He told FOX19, “I love it here. I love everything about this place, so we’re going to make it work,” and also said he is proud to be the Bengals quarterback.
Wilson’s claim also ran straight into the reality of Burrow’s contract. He is signed through 2029, and the deal is effectively uncuttable before then. So while Wilson spoke as if Cincinnati’s future could turn on one rough season, the paperwork says otherwise.
The timing made it sting more. Burrow had caught heat for his pregame outfit before the Bengals opened at home against Tampa Bay, and Wilson’s comments turned the quarterback into the bigger story anyway.
Cincinnati did miss the playoffs after injuries and a messy 2025, and that part of the conversation is real. But the leap from that to Burrow wanting out is what turned Wilson’s debut into a viral pile-on.
