Five-star running back David Gabriel Georges didn’t just announce his commitment to Tennessee on Tuesday - he also used the moment to push back hard against the noise that came with it.
In a statement posted to social media on July 22, Gabriel Georges said the attention around his decision had been drowned out by “negative media coverage, false narratives, and unfair assumptions” about him and his family. He said the reaction crossed a line, calling out harassment and misinformation after a recruitment that had drawn plenty of eyes.
“What should have been one of the most meaningful and joyful moment of my life has, at times, been overshadowed by negative media coverage, false narratives, and unfair assumptions about both my character and my family,” Gabriel Georges wrote. “I understand the passion, excitement, and pride that college football inspires, and I have great respect for every fan base and every program involved in this process. However, any form of harassment and the spread of misinformation is simply unnecessary and uncalled for.”
Gabriel Georges, a top-10 recruit in the class of 2027 and the nation’s No. 2 running back prospect per the 247Sports Composite, picked Tennessee over Ohio State and Ole Miss after a heavily followed recruiting battle. The process had generated plenty of speculation, and fans from the involved programs spent much of it trading theories about where he would land and why.
He made clear that the choice was his alone.
“This decision was mine and was made through careful thought, prayer, and countless conversations with those I trust most,” Gabriel Georges wrote. “I respectfully ask that my decision be honored and that people refrain from making assumptions or spreading false information.”
Gabriel Georges said his attention now shifts back to finishing the school year strong before his senior season at Baylor School in Chattanooga. After that, he’ll head to Tennessee.
“To everyone who has stood by me throughout this journey, thank you,” he said. “Your encouragement has meant the world to me.
I can’t wait to begin this next chapter, represent my new program with pride, and continue chasing my dreams. The future is bright, and I am excited for everything that is still to come.
