In a surprising twist, Maxx Crosby has returned to the Las Vegas Raiders after the Baltimore Ravens backed out of a trade due to concerns over a failed physical. Now back in Sin City, Crosby seems content, but the story might not be over just yet.
According to Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer, speaking on "The MMQB NFL Podcast" with Conor Orr, the Raiders might still consider trading Crosby later this season. The key? Crosby needs to hit the field and perform at a high level, dispelling any lingering doubts about his health.
Breer noted, “If he’s going to be traded, it’s going to have to come after Maxx Crosby gets back on the field and plays really well, so people will forget about everything that just happened.” This would ease the process for both the Raiders' management and their fan base, making a future trade more palatable.
However, the Raiders aren't under any obligation to move Crosby. He hasn't requested a trade, and the team might not be inclined to part with him at a discount after the failed physical.
Breer also highlighted the potential benefits of keeping Crosby around, even if he's not in their long-term plans. His presence could be crucial in establishing a strong culture as the team enters the Klint Kubiak era. “That’s not a bad place for the Raiders to be, either," Breer added, emphasizing Crosby's role in building a winning environment.
While several teams might still eye Crosby if he becomes available, the price could be a sticking point. The idea of giving up two first-round picks might be off the table, especially if Crosby doesn't perform as expected or if other teams aren't willing to meet the Raiders' demands.
For now, all eyes will be on Crosby as he looks to prove himself once more on the field. Whether he stays or goes, his impact on the Raiders this season could be significant.
