Joe Burrow and Ted Karras spent part of the offseason doing what football players often do best when they’re away from the field: talking food and making a mess in the kitchen.
The Bengals teammates teamed up for a Kroger video and traded cooking duties, each putting together a meal while chatting through their go-to habits at the table. Burrow handled a turkey burger, shrimp for tacos and some guacamole, while Karras walked through the kind of eating plan that helps an offensive lineman keep his size.
Karras, listed at 6-foot-4 and 310 pounds, said he has to keep feeding himself all day long just to stay where he needs to be during the season.
"I make up the gap at night. I do about a 1,200-1,500 calorie shake," Karras said about the process.
"Ice cream, eggs, collagen protein. Throw a little olive oil.
Throw a little honey in."
Burrow, meanwhile, brought up how tough it can be to keep eating late into the night.
"In college, I used to set an alarm. I'd eat a peanut butter and jelly like at three in the morning," Burrow noted. "It's hard to go to sleep after you eat that much food."
The conversation also turned to steak, with Burrow mentioning that he likes to reverse-sear his.
As the two worked through the recipes, Burrow said he isn’t big on avocado, even as Karras leaned into the guacamole side of the menu.
"What are you making over there, Joe?" Karras asked in a back-and-forth with his star quarterback.
"Got a little turkey burger, cooking off your shrimp for you for some tacos. I'm gonna make some guacamole here.
I often do eat a lot of avocados. Do you?
I'm not a big avocado guy (Burrow said). Not as much.
Not as much."
Karras’ taco setup included seasoned shrimp, slaw and guacamole on top. He called it exactly what it was meant to be: a recovery meal.
"Now for these tacos here, we got seasoned shrimp, little slaw, and I'm gonna throw a little guac on top of mine," Karras noted. "This is a recovery meal.
I mean, turkey and shrimp are very lean protein sources. I think everything on this table is very healthy, fresh, and clean.
This burger's looking pretty good. It does look really good.
I thought the shrimp was fantastic."
The guacamole also came with a little history. Karras had sliced his hand in 2022 while making it for Burrow and teammates during a team-bonding cookout.
The full cooking session was shared by Kroger.

Joe Burrow Incident Keeps Bengals Opener Under The NFL Spotlight
Joe Burrow and the Bengals got the kind of start they wanted in 2026, opening the season at home with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cincinnati held its lead through the game and came away with the victory, but one sequence involving Burrow drew extra attention well beyond the final score.
Tampa Bay safety Tykee Smith was flagged for a late hit on Burrow, and the NFL is now reviewing the play for possible fines. It is the sort of postgame wrinkle that can linger after an opener, especially when the league is still sorting out how it wants to handle contact on a quarterback who matters as much to his team as Burrow does to the Bengals. Bengals Rookie Gave Week 1 A Feel-Good Moment Fans Loved
Landon Robinson brought a different kind of presence to his first NFL game Sunday, showing up at the stadium in his Navy Service Dress Blue uniform before the Bengals faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The rookie defensive lineman, a seventh-round pick out of Navy, made Cincinnatis 53-man roster as interior depth and was inactive for Week 1, but his arrival still stood out to fans who got a glimpse of the former service academy player beginning his pro career.
Robinsons path already has a local angle, too, since he is from Copley, Ohio, and he arrived in Cincinnati with a decorated college rsum that included being named the 2025 AAC Defensive Player of the Year. Even without taking the field on opening weekend, he gave the Bengals a feel-good moment that fit the kind of story fans tend to remember early in a season, especially with a rookie whose journey has already been anything but ordinary. Baker Mayfield Just Handed Bengals Fans A Brutal Reminder
Baker Mayfield gave Cincinnati plenty to enjoy in Week 1, but not in the way a Buccaneers quarterback normally would. Tampa Bays opener turned on a series of costly mistakes, with Mayfield coughing up the ball three times and helping set the tone for a Bengals win that never really felt out of reach once the turnovers started piling up.
For Bengals fans, it was a familiar kind of relief after a summer of watching another teams big contract and big expectations attached to Mayfield in Tampa. His new three-year deal keeps him in place for the long haul, but Sunday was a reminder that even with that kind of security, the margin for error is still razor thin when the ball keeps coming loose.
