In a move that adds depth to their offensive line, the Eagles are bringing back Fred Johnson on a one-year deal. Johnson, who’s 28, has had quite the journey since going undrafted out of Florida in 2019.
He initially signed with the Steelers but was waived during the season, which led to the Bengals claiming him off waivers. Johnson spent several years in Cincinnati, where he was tendered as a restricted free agent before the Bengals decided to rescind the offer.
His path then took him to the Buccaneers on a one-year deal, though he didn’t stick around for long before landing on the Eagles practice squad. In 2023, Johnson secured a two-year contract with Philadelphia, showcasing his resilience and adaptability.
Last offseason, the Jaguars picked him up on a one-year contract but traded him back to the Eagles in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick. In the 2025 season, Johnson proved his worth by appearing in all 17 games and starting eight times at tackle. His return to the Eagles is set to bolster their line, providing both experience and versatility.
