The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are taking a hard look at one of the NFL’s rising offensive minds. According to a report, the Bucs are set to interview Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher for their vacant OC position.
Pitcher, who took over the Bengals' offense in January 2024, has quietly become a name to watch around the league. His potential move is being made possible thanks to Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, who’s reportedly granted Pitcher permission to speak with teams that are offering play-calling responsibilities-something that’s increasingly becoming a key factor for coordinators looking to take the next step in their careers.
This isn’t the first time Pitcher has drawn interest this cycle. Earlier this month, the Cleveland Browns reportedly requested to interview him for their head coaching vacancy. That’s a strong indicator of how highly regarded he is in league circles-teams aren’t just eyeing him for coordinator roles; some see head-coach potential.
If Pitcher does move on, it could open the door for a familiar face in Cincinnati. Brian Callahan, who previously held the Bengals’ OC role before taking the head coaching job with the Tennessee Titans last season, could be in line for a return. Callahan was let go by the Titans after a tough campaign, and a reunion with Taylor in Cincinnati would make plenty of sense given their past success together.
For Tampa Bay, the search for a new offensive coordinator is about more than just filling a vacancy-it’s about finding someone who can maximize the talent on a roster that’s shown flashes but needs more consistency, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Pitcher’s background in developing quarterbacks and his experience within a Bengals system that’s been one of the more innovative in recent years could be exactly what the Buccaneers are looking for.
This is a name to keep an eye on as the coaching carousel continues to spin.
