Brian Callahan’s coaching journey has taken another turn - and this time, it’s to the Big Apple.
The former Bengals assistant and most recently the head coach of the Tennessee Titans has landed a new gig, joining the New York Giants as their quarterbacks coach, per reports from NFL Network. It’s a move that not only reshapes the Giants’ offensive staff but also closes the door - at least for now - on any potential reunion with Zac Taylor in Cincinnati.
Callahan’s name had been circulating in several coaching conversations this offseason. He and Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher were both reportedly in the mix for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator job.
Tampa ultimately went another direction, but the buzz around Callahan didn’t stop there. While Pitcher’s candidacy didn’t seem to generate further traction, Callahan remained a name to watch - and now he’s found his next opportunity.
This development is notable for a few reasons. First, Callahan’s coaching résumé continues to grow in intriguing ways.
After his stint as a head coach in Tennessee, returning to a position-specific role might seem like a step back on paper, but it could be a strategic move. The Giants have questions at quarterback, and Callahan brings a wealth of experience to that room.
His work with quarterbacks in the past - including his time helping shape Joe Burrow’s early NFL development in Cincinnati - makes him a valuable addition for a Giants team still trying to solidify its identity under center.
Second, there was always a lingering thought that if Callahan didn’t land a job elsewhere, a return to Cincinnati in some capacity could be on the table. That possibility is now off the board, at least for the foreseeable future.
And while Pitcher remains in Cincinnati, his name getting linked to other roles - even if nothing materialized this time - suggests he’s on the radar around the league. That’s something to keep an eye on moving forward.
For now, though, the coaching carousel spins on, and Brian Callahan heads east to the NFC. The Giants get a seasoned voice to help guide their quarterbacks, and Callahan gets another chance to leave his mark - this time, in New York.
