AFC North Shakeup: Steelers Rise, Bengals Fade, and Browns Hit Rock Bottom
Week 14 isn't quite in the books yet, but with all four AFC North squads having wrapped up their games, we’ve got a clear snapshot of how the division is shaping up heading into the final stretch - and it’s getting wild.
Let’s start with the Bengals, who went into snowy Buffalo with slim playoff hopes and left with even slimmer ones. Cincinnati dropped a 39-34 shootout to the Bills, and while the loss doesn’t mathematically eliminate them from postseason contention, it does push them to the brink.
At 4-9, the Bengals now need to run the table and pray for chaos around the conference. It’s desperation time in the Queen City.
Meanwhile, the AFC North’s heavyweight bout took place in Baltimore, where the Ravens and Steelers squared off for first place in the division. And in true AFC North fashion, it was a gritty, physical battle.
The Steelers, showing the kind of toughness that’s defined their season, held off a late Ravens rally to steal a huge road win and take sole possession of first place at 7-6. That’s a statement win, and it might just be the one that defines Pittsburgh’s push for the playoffs.
The Ravens, now 6-7, are still very much in the hunt, but they’ve got to regroup quickly. With the Bengals coming to town in Week 15, there’s no time to dwell on what could’ve been. That game suddenly becomes a must-win for both sides - one fighting to stay alive, the other trying to keep pace in a tight AFC wild card race.
Then there’s Cleveland. The Browns hosted the 1-11 Titans and, in what has to be one of the most disappointing performances of the week, gave Tennessee just its second win of the season.
At 3-10, the Browns are officially in the mix for the No. 1 overall pick. There’s not much left to play for in terms of the standings, but there’s still pride - and perhaps jobs - on the line in these final few weeks.

- Pittsburgh Steelers (7-6) - First place, holding the tiebreaker over Baltimore
- Baltimore Ravens (6-7) - Still in the mix, but the margin for error is shrinking
- Cincinnati Bengals (4-9) - On life support, needing to win out and get help
