As the NFL offseason unfolds, the spotlight is on the Cincinnati Bengals and their approach to free agency and the NFL Draft, aiming to make a postseason comeback. Historically, the Bengals haven't been major players in free agency, but there's hope for a bold approach reminiscent of their 2021 moves.
With the new league year on the horizon, NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal has unveiled his Top 101 NFL Free Agents, featuring two Bengals players.
Trey Hendrickson, a standout defensive end, ranks sixth on the list. Rosenthal highlights Hendrickson's impressive 2024 season while noting his age and recent injury.
"Just a season removed from being the runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year, Hendrickson enters free agency at 31, following core muscle surgery. He's a high-risk, high-reward option for teams aiming to elevate their defense."
Hendrickson is expected to explore new opportunities this offseason, which means the Bengals might need to find a way to replace his impact on the field.
Another Bengals defensive end, Joseph Ossai, appears at No. 48. After re-signing with Cincinnati on a one-year, $7 million contract last year, Ossai increased his playing time in 2025 and boosted his performance, making him a more attractive option this offseason.
"Returning to the Bengals, Ossai recorded a career-high 43 pressures, as per Pro Football Focus. He's poised to fare better in the market this time," Rosenthal notes.
While Ossai might seek new opportunities, the Bengals could prioritize him over Hendrickson, considering factors like age and injury history.
The NFL's legal tampering period kicks off at 9 a.m. on March 9th, marking the start of the free agent frenzy and revealing where these players might land.
