The Bengals may not be done looking for help on defense as the regular season gets closer, and a familiar name has surfaced in the chatter: Carrington Valentine.
According to Easton Butler, Cincinnati has reached out to the Packers about the cornerback. Butler tweeted, "Teams have been calling the Packers about the availability of CB Carrington Valentine.
The 3 teams that have called are the Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins, and Cincinnati Bengals. Valentine is on the last year of his rookie deal, where he is scheduled to make $3.7 million this year."
For the Bengals, the interest makes sense. D.J.
Turner and Dax Hill are the projected starters at both boundary corner spots in 2026, but the depth behind them looks thin enough to raise some concern. Right now, D.J.
Ivey and third-round rookie Tacario Davis are the only backup corners listed as boundary-specific options. Davis has already been dealing with an injury in training camp, while Ivey has shown some flashes but has mostly been a special teams contributor so far in his career.
That’s where Valentine would fit. He’d give Cincinnati a more proven option behind Turner and Hill, and his résumé is already stronger than what’s currently sitting behind them. In three NFL seasons, Valentine has posted 12 PBUs and three interceptions, carving out a role as a starter in Green Bay after arriving as a seventh-round pick out of Kentucky.
He also brings a built-in local connection. Valentine grew up in Cincinnati, went to Archbishop High School in Hamilton County, and then headed to Kentucky, where he recorded 15 PBUs and one interception in 35 games.
If the Bengals and Packers ever did work out a deal, names like Kris Jenkins Jr. or Andrei Iosivas could be part of the conversation for a player such as Valentine. That would line up with the way younger players have started making noise in camp, with Landon Robinson and Colbie Young drawing strong impressions at defensive tackle and wide receiver.
The Bengals are clearly looking for more established insurance in the cornerback room, and Valentine would bring a steady floor if Cincinnati decides to make a move.
He’s already shown he can handle the assignment, too. When the Packers faced the Bengals last season, Valentine broke up a pass against Ja’Marr Chase before Chase answered right back with a spectacular touchdown grab.

Cordell Volson Is Facing The Same Problem Bengals Fans Remember
Cordell Volsons first summer with the Titans has already brought a familiar kind of unease for Bengals fans who watched his Cincinnati tenure closely. After leaving the Bengals in the offseason, Volson arrived in Tennessee hoping to carve out a role at right guard, but his first week of preseason action did not go smoothly and raised immediate questions about where he fits in the new lineup.
The concern is less about one August outing than the larger sign it sent about his standing with the Titans. In a battle where early momentum matters, Volson is already facing pressure to prove he belongs, and the way the guard competition has opened leaves his roster spot feeling far less secure than he would have wanted this early in camp. Bengals Still Have Two Starting Battles Fans Cant Ignore
Most of the Bengals depth chart has settled into place as training camp winds down, but a couple of spots still have enough movement to matter. One of them is at safety, where Jordan Battle appears to be holding a starting job for now, even as the team keeps sorting out the best pairing behind the front line. The other is at wide receiver, where the top two spots are spoken for with Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, leaving a smaller but still important role to be defined.
Andrei Iosivas is part of that WR3 conversation, and he is not alone. Rookie Colbie Young has pushed himself into the mix, giving Cincinnati another option as it looks for the right fit behind its established stars. With camp nearing its finish, these are the kinds of battles that can shape the early part of the season, even if they do not draw the same attention as the bigger names on the roster. [Read more 🡒]
Bengals Rookies Just Gave This Crowded Defense Something To Think About
The Bengals got their first real preseason look at the rookie class on defense in a 16-14 win over the Lions, and there was enough there to make the depth chart conversation a little more interesting. Cashius Howell flashed the kind of disruption and power that can earn a young edge rusher attention fast, while Landon Robinson, a seventh-round pick, turned in a strong showing of his own with a sack and the sort of versatility teams love to uncover in August.
Tacario Davis did not take part in the game because of precautionary reasons, but he is expected back soon, adding another name to a group that already has plenty of bodies fighting for snaps. For a defense that is trying to sort out who can stick and who can help, the rookies did exactly what they needed to do by making it harder to look past them. [Read more 🡒]
