The Bengals are almost through the preseason, and the final tune-up comes Friday night against the Philadelphia Eagles before the league turns its full attention to roster cuts. By August 30 at 6 PM ET, every NFL team has to get down to 53 players, and Cincinnati’s first two preseason games have already created a few real storylines.
At the center of that conversation is the Bengals’ preseason MVP, and there are several names in the mix after Cincinnati jumped out to a 2-0 start.
Dohnte Meyers has been the biggest surprise. The former CFL wide receiver entered camp with an uphill battle just to stick on the practice squad, but now he looks like he’s likely to land on the 53-man roster.
Colbie Young has also made his presence felt. The fourth-round rookie has been an impact pass-catcher and appears to be putting himself in position for meaningful snaps in Year 1.
On the defensive side, Landon Robinson has forced his way into the picture. The seventh-round rookie has been disruptive as an interior pass rusher and is fighting for one of those final roster spots.
Isaiah Foskey has done his part as well, even if he has flown a little more under the radar. He has collected eight total pressures and posted a 77.0 PFF grade this preseason while battling for one of the final edge-rusher jobs.
And then there’s Swayze Bozeman. The veteran linebacker and Super Bowl champion has made enough noise at linebacker to give himself a real shot at sneaking onto the roster.
So the question remains: who gets the Bengals’ preseason MVP label?
