Bengals: Navigating the Offseason with Strategic Moves
The Cincinnati Bengals are shaping up for an intriguing offseason. In an ideal scenario, they'd kick off the year with Joe Burrow leading the charge, potentially backed by veteran Joe Flacco. However, Flacco might be eyeing opportunities where he can compete for a starting role, adding an interesting wrinkle to the Bengals' quarterback plans.
When it comes to the draft, Notre Dame's running back Jeremiyah Love could pose a fascinating dilemma if he falls to the Bengals at No. 10.
Historically, Cincinnati hasn't been keen on drafting running backs this high, especially in a class that's not considered deep. If they miss out on Love, they might opt for a budget-friendly veteran backup instead.
The Bengals are also likely to focus on tight end prospects in the later rounds, with a day three pick almost certainly earmarked for this position. Similarly, they’re expected to bolster their receiving corps with a late-round addition.
On the offensive line, re-signing Lucas Patrick for depth seems logical, while rounds two and four could be prime time for targeting a developmental tackle. There's also a slim chance they might snag an edge rusher or linebacker in the first round if the right talent slips through, though defensive backs are more likely to be available and appealing.
Bengals' Free Agency: A Conservative Approach
The Bengals have maintained a conservative stance in free agency, which aligns with their usual strategy. Despite finishing 6-11, they haven't made significant splashes.
They did, however, sign defensive lineman Jonathan Allen to a one-year, $13.5 million deal. Some league evaluators question whether Allen, without a robust supporting cast, can be a game-changer.
There’s skepticism about his role as the primary pass rusher alongside BJ Hill.
The Bengals appear to be betting on Shemar Stewart, their 2025 first-round pick, to step up. Some insiders feel Cincinnati might be overestimating Stewart's potential impact this season.
Ravens: Scouting for Talent
The Baltimore Ravens are busy preparing for the draft, with a slew of 30 visits scheduled. Missouri's DE Zion Young is among the prospects visiting, along with Florida's DT Caleb Banks and Penn State's WR Trebor Pena. The Ravens are also eyeing Penn State's DE Dani Dennis-Sutton and Memphis OT Travis Burke.
Ohio State's DT Kayden McDonald has already had a formal Combine interview with the Ravens and is slated for a 30 visit. LSU's safety A.J. Haulcy is also on their radar for a visit, highlighting the Ravens' thorough approach to scouting defensive talent this offseason.
