UCF Looks to Bounce Back Against Cincinnati in Big 12 Clash

The stage is set in Kansas City for an intriguing matchup between UCF and Cincinnati in the Big 12 Conference tournament's second round. Both teams are eager to make a statement, but it's the Knights who are particularly keen to shake off a recent skid.

UCF, seeded eighth, enters this game after a first-round bye, having tied for seventh in the regular season standings. They edged out Cincinnati for the higher seed thanks to a tiebreaker, despite splitting their regular-season encounters.

The Knights have hit a rough patch, dropping their last three games, including a 77-62 setback against West Virginia. In that loss, Riley Kugel and Themus Fulks each contributed 16 points, while Jordan Burks added 14 points and nine rebounds. Despite dominating the paint with a 40-28 scoring advantage and outrebounding West Virginia 41-33, UCF couldn't secure the win.

Coach Johnny Dawkins emphasized the need for focus, saying, "We have to stay locked in for the full 40 minutes. It's been our Achilles' heel in the past games. We need to fight through this; nothing comes easy in this league."

UCF boasts a balanced attack with four players averaging double figures, led by Kugel's 14.7 points per game and Fulks' 14.4.

Cincinnati, the ninth seed, earned their spot in this matchup with a solid 73-66 victory over Utah. Jalen Celestine led the charge with 19 points, while Baba Miller's all-around performance included 11 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. Moustapha Thiam also contributed with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bearcats overcame early jitters, using a 15-2 run to secure a halftime lead. Coach Wes Miller praised the team's resilience, noting, "Once we settled down, our defense kept us in the game. We rebounded well and found our rhythm."

As these two teams clash, fans can expect a competitive showdown with both squads looking to advance and make their mark in the tournament.
