Cincinnati Comeback: Bearcats Rally Past Evansville
In a thrilling display of resilience, the University of Cincinnati Bearcats baseball team pulled off an electrifying comeback against Evansville, clinching a 13-11 victory at UC Baseball Stadium. This win marks their seventh straight, boosting their record to an impressive 14-4.
Evansville had built a commanding lead with a series of explosive innings, including a three-run second, another trio in the fifth, and a five-run sixth. But Cincinnati wasn't ready to throw in the towel.
Trailing by seven as they entered the bottom of the seventh, the Bearcats began their charge. Sophomore Jackson Smith ignited the rally with a three-run homer, cutting the deficit to four.
The eighth inning was where the magic truly happened. Junior Cal Sefcik sparked the offense with an RBI single.
Then, freshman Jackson Reardon delivered a clutch double to right-center, bringing in two runs and narrowing the gap to 11-10. With two runners on, freshman Enzo Infelise stepped up and hammered an 0-2 pitch deep into left field, flipping the game on its head and putting the Bearcats ahead 13-11.
Infelise had a breakout performance, going 3-for-4 and hitting the first two home runs of his college career. His game-winning homer in the eighth was the cherry on top of a remarkable day.
Reardon also shone, contributing two hits, two RBIs, and a stolen base, while Sefcik added two hits of his own. On the mound, six Bearcats pitchers took turns, with sophomore Adam Buczkowski earning the win after striking out two in 1.1 scoreless innings. Redshirt senior Joel Pineiro closed the door, retiring the Purple Aces in order in the ninth to secure the win.
The Bearcats now turn their attention to Big 12 play, kicking off the weekend against BYU. Following the series with the Cougars, they'll stay out west to face Utah Valley.
Game Highlights:
- Jack Natili started strong with a two-run homer in the first, his third of the season.
