Chiefs Eager to Evaluate Defensive Line Prospect With Questionable Past

The Kansas City Chiefs join a competitive race to evaluate Tennessee's dynamic pass rusher Omarr Norman-Lott, as teams vie for defensive strength ahead of the draft.

Omarr Norman-Lott is likely to be feeling the wear and tear by the time the 2025 NFL Draft concludes. As a prominent defensive lineman from Tennessee, he’s attracting notable attention from NFL franchises gearing up for the late-April showdown. Among the teams making moves is the Kansas City Chiefs, who are bringing Norman-Lott in for a well-deserved private workout and visit over the next couple of weeks.

Ian Rapoport, respected NFL insider, reports that the Chiefs, alongside the San Francisco 49ers, have scheduled time with Norman-Lott coming up. This latest workout comes after his top 30 visits with several NFL franchises, including the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Norman-Lott's schedule is quite packed, and one thing's for sure: his stamina will be put to the test.

But here’s the million-dollar question for the Chiefs: could Norman-Lott be the answer to their ongoing quest to solidify the defensive interior?

Norman-Lott enters the pro league with a strong resume as a rotational lineman at Tennessee, boasting 9.5 sacks over the past two seasons. His versatility on the frontline—having played various roles—stands out. However, whether he can transition to a starting role in the NFL remains a question since he specialized more as a situational player during his college career.

The #Chiefs are looking to add Omarr Norman-Lott (#55) to their roster, according to @RapSheet.

Standing at 6-1 and weighing in at 291 pounds, Norman-Lott is a formidable pass-rushing interior defensive lineman whose 26% pass-rush win rate tops all other prospects at his position in the class. Now, analyzing his potential fit with the Chiefs, there’s no denying that the team is in dire need of competitive spirit along the defensive line. While the Chiefs could certainly benefit from draft picks bolstering their edge defense, the interior is feeling particularly sparse with veteran Chris Jones being one of the few established names, alongside a cast of one-year signings. The departure of Derrick Nnadi to the New York Jets in free agency left a void, although they've since acquired Jerry Tillery and retained Mike Pennel and Marlon Tuipulotu.

Historically, the Chiefs have experienced challenges in securing cost-effective talent for the defensive interior. The brief stint of Keondre Coburn, who was dropped soon after being drafted, serves as one example, as does the 2023 trade for Neil Farrell from the Raiders, which also ended in a quick exit.

So, could Norman-Lott provide a longer-term solution, even if he remains in a rotation role? The Chiefs will certainly be hoping so.
