In a Spring Training matchup, the White Sox managed to pull off a win against the Dodgers, taking the game 7-2. While it's just preseason, the victory is still a bright spot for the Sox, though it might have come with a significant downside.
The Sox bench was the star of the show. Lenyn Sosa and Luisangel Acuña kicked things off in the second inning, with Sosa’s leadoff double and Acuña’s single and steal setting the stage.
A throwing error by Dalton Rushing helped Chicago get on the board. Tristan Peters added a sacrifice bunt, and Derek Hill tripled, scoring on another Dodgers error to extend the lead.
Sosa and Peters were on fire, determined to make their mark. They combined for three more runs in the third inning. Sosa wrapped up his day with two hits, two runs, and an RBI, while Peters capped his three-RBI performance with a spectacular catch, robbing Freddie Freeman of a home run and helping Grant Taylor escape a bases-loaded situation in the sixth.
But the real headline was Mike Vasil. He delivered an impressive performance, pitching 3 ⅔ scoreless innings on just 46 pitches. Vasil allowed two hits and two walks while striking out three, including big names like Andy Pages and Mookie Betts.
Unfortunately, the good news was tempered by a setback. After walking Freeman and Muncy at the end of the fourth, Vasil exited the game due to a sore right elbow. He’s set for further evaluation, and while it’s never promising when a pitcher leaves with an injury, the Sox will be hoping it’s nothing serious, especially with Kyle Teel already on the sidelines.
The bullpen struggled to maintain the shutout. Taylor and Tyler Gilbert each gave up a run in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.
However, Tyson Miller stepped up to close the game, securing a hard-fought win for the Sox. Despite the victory, the potential loss of Vasil could weigh heavily on the team as they prepare for the regular season.
