The White Sox are set to make August 8 a big night for Ozzie Guillén, and now the team has revealed who will be part of the celebration when his No. 13 goes up for good.
Guillén, the former shortstop and manager of the 2005 World Series championship team, will have his uniform retired before the first pitch against the Guardians on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. The pregame ceremony will feature Chuck Garfien on stage along with Harold Baines, Mark Buehrle, Paul Konerko, and A.J. Pierzynski.
The guest list doesn’t stop there. Also expected to attend are Brian Anderson, José Contreras, Neal Cotts, Joe Crede, Jon Garland, Scott Podsednik, Cliff Politte, Greg Walker, Jesse Crain, Lance Johnson, Ron Karkovice, Roberto Hernández, Michael Huff, Bo Jackson, and Ron Kittle.
With a sold-out crowd expected, the White Sox are opening parking lots three hours before first pitch and stadium gates two hours before the game. Fans are being urged to arrive early at 35th and Shields, and the first 15,000 people in the ballpark will receive a Guillén Replica Jersey. The team says everyone should be in their seats by 5:15 p.m. to catch the full ceremony.
Guillén’s retirement makes him just the 13th person in White Sox history to have his number retired, joining names such as Harold Baines, Mark Buehrle, Paul Konerko, and Frank Thomas. He’s also the first manager in club history to receive the honor.
CHSN will air a special edition of the White Sox pregame show that includes the ceremony, while the game itself will be shown on FOX and FOX One. The radio broadcast will be available on ESPN Chicago Radio AM-1000/FM-100.3.
