White Sox Prospect Stuns Coaching Staff During Impressive Spring Training Run

Rising star William Bergolla Jr. is catching the eyes of the White Sox coaching staff during an already impressive Spring Training performance.

The White Sox are off to a promising start in Spring Training, with a recent walk-off homer ending their three-game winning streak. Despite the loss, the team has shown plenty of positive signs, with several players already looking like they're in midseason form.

Notably, it's not just the major league roster catching attention. Some minor league talents are making waves, particularly William Bergolla Jr. This young prospect, ranked 12th in the White Sox system by MLB Pipeline, is quickly becoming a standout favorite among the coaching staff.

Acquired during the 2024 trade deadline from the Phillies in exchange for Tanner Banks, Bergolla Jr. has done nothing but impress since joining the White Sox. His first full season with the Birmingham Barons was a hit-literally.

As a 20-year-old in AA, he posted a .286 average and an impressive .342 on-base percentage. With 19 doubles, two triples, and a remarkable walk-to-strikeout ratio of 37 to 26, Bergolla demonstrated elite discipline at the plate.

Adding to his prowess, he swiped 40 bases, showcasing his speed and base-running intelligence.

Bergolla Jr. has carried this momentum into Spring Training, starting off with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, including two doubles. When Colson Montgomery was sidelined due to illness, Bergolla stepped up, starting with the main squad and putting the ball in play in both his at-bats, even if they didn’t find the gaps.

The coaching staff, including Will Venable, has taken note of Bergolla Jr.'s potential. Venable recently highlighted Bergolla as a favorite among the coaches, a sentiment echoed by the young player's tenacity and skill on the field. In a recent game, he nearly beat out a bunt, emphasizing his hustle and determination.

Bergolla Jr. embodies the kind of player that Chris Getz values-disciplined, patient, and a constant on-base threat. While he might not be a power hitter, his ability to deliver quality at-bats and his speed make him a significant asset.

Starting the season with the Birmingham Barons in AA seems likely for Bergolla, but if he maintains this level of play, a promotion to AAA could be on the horizon. And if the White Sox face any injuries up the middle, don’t be surprised if Bergolla gets the call to make his major league debut.
