The White Sox’s Game 1 win over the Guardians came with a little help from an unexpected place: the Chicago media world.
On Monday’s episode of Barstool Sports’ The Stretch, Dave “White Sox Dave” Williams said he texted both players and a front office executive during the game after noticing Cleveland was tipping pitches. The White Sox already had a 2-0 series lead entering Game 3 of the ALDS, but the conversation centered on what happened in the third and fourth innings of Game 1, when the Guardians loaded the bases in the bottom of both frames and came away empty.
“It was like the 5th inning, and whenever the Guardians had a guy on 2nd, they were tapping their helmet for breaking pitches,” host Eddie Farrer said of Game 1 after asking Williams if he could share the story.
“And every pitch that the White Sox threw, they were (holding off) on or whatever. They weren’t swinging.
And (Williams is) like, ‘I got ’em.’ He texts Burke middle of the game.
He’s like, ‘They’re stealing the signs.’”
Williams said he first reached out to Sean Burke, figuring Burke might still have his phone even though he was out of the game.
“Well, so I knew (Sean Burke) was out of the game. He couldn’t pitch.
He pitched a game before. So I thought he might have his phone on him,” Williams explained.
“Then I hit up (Mike Vasil), and then I hit up the front office exec. All three of them got back to me right away, and they’re like, ‘Yeah, we got this.
We saw it too.’”
Williams also said he wasn’t the only one sending the warning along.
“I wasn’t the only one that did it,” Williams asserted. “ Jordan Lazowski, I know you’re listening.
He did the exact same thing. He works for Sox on 35th, and he did the exact same thing.
He hit up the Sox too because they didn’t call time and fix it immediately.
“And I mean, a couple of those times they had bases loaded. Yeah.
And if they know breaking, if they know what pitch is coming, that’s an issue. And they didn’t call time and fix it like middle of the inning, which, like, they should have, but it got fixed eventually.
So yeah, I did play my part a little bit.”
By Williams’ telling, the White Sox had already noticed the problem before he and Lazowski weighed in. Still, he made it clear he was happy to help.
“Anything for my team to win,” Williams said.

Tommy Pham Had White Sox Teammates Cracking Up Before ALDS Game 3
Tommy Pham gave his White Sox teammates a different kind of entertainment on the way home after an ALDS game, turning a plane ride into an impromptu fantasy football session. While watching Monday Night Football, Pham was openly frustrated with how his fantasy players were doing, and the reaction around him was enough to have teammates cracking up as the club flew back with its playoff momentum intact.
Chicago enters Game 3 at home with a 2-0 series lead over the Cleveland Guardians and an undefeated postseason so far, which has made for a pretty upbeat travel and clubhouse mood. Phams sideline-style commentary was a reminder that even in October, theres still room for a little levity, especially for a team that has spent the playoffs handling business and enjoying the ride. Hawk Harrelson Has A Message White Sox Fans Will Love Before Game 3
The White Sox are about to play their first home playoff game since 2021, and the atmosphere around Rate Field has a familiar October buzz to it. With a 2-0 series lead heading into Game 3, there is plenty for Chicago fans to feel good about already, and few voices resonate with that crowd quite like former longtime broadcaster Hawk Harrelson.
Harrelson, who retired in 2018 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021, showed up on ESPN 1000 to send a message to White Sox fans before the game. Even away from the booth, he has stayed a loyal supporter of the club, and his words are the kind of pregame rallying cry that fits a team trying to turn a strong start into something bigger back home. Hagen Smith Is Forcing A White Sox Decision They Can't Ignore
Hagen Smiths postseason work has become one of the more interesting developments in a White Sox season that has already forced the organization to look hard at what comes next. The left-hander, a 2024 draft pick, has answered the call with strong outings against Houston and Cleveland, and the performance has only reinforced why Chicago was so intrigued by his arm in the first place.
Smiths underlying metrics back up the eye test, with the strikeout rate and pitch location both pointing to a pitcher who is getting big-league hitters to miss and miss in the right places. That kind of showing tends to sharpen a front offices thinking, and it leaves the White Sox with a real question about how best to use him going forward, including whether a starting role could be part of the plan in 2027.
