White Sox Finally Ended A 19-Year Wait Now Cleveland Awaits

The White Sox broke a long-standing playoff drought with a crucial sixth-inning surge and a stellar bullpen, setting the stage for their ALDS clash with the Cleveland Guardians.

Chicago’s long wait is over. The White Sox are moving on after beating the Astros 7-3 on Wednesday, claiming their first playoff series since the 2005 World Series against Houston. For a fan base that has lived through plenty of frustration, this one landed hard.

The game turned in the sixth inning, and it turned fast. Chicago entered that frame without a hit since the first inning, when it put up four runs. Houston had already chipped away with three solo homers, and the momentum felt tilted the Astros’ way.

Then the White Sox stirred the whole thing back to life. Andrew Benintendi opened the inning with a walk and was replaced by Luisangel Acuña as a pinch runner.

Tristan Peters followed with another walk, putting runners on first and second with nobody out. Acuña then stole second, and he and Peters pulled off a double steal of second and third, a sequence that seemed to unsettle reliever Bryan Abreu.

On the next pitch, Abreu left a slider over the plate, and Chase Meidroth crushed it for a three-run homer. Meidroth knew it as soon as the ball left the bat, and the blast stretched Chicago’s lead to 7-3.

That swing did more than add insurance. It flipped the tone of the game and, in the bigger picture, the series.

Chicago’s pitching did enough to back it up. After a bullpen game Tuesday that limited a Houston lineup led by presumptive AL MVP Yordan Alvarez to three runs, the White Sox held the Astros to three again on Wednesday.

Sean Burke wasn’t sharp, but he managed the damage, allowing three runs on three solo home runs over four innings before manager Will Venable made an aggressive call to go to the bullpen. The move paid off.

Chicago’s relievers allowed just one hit over the final five innings.

The White Sox also delivered at the plate when it mattered, and that has been a major issue all season. Entering Wednesday, they were hitting just .243 with runners in scoring position in 2026, and too many chances had come and gone with runners aboard and one or two outs.

In this series, though, they finally cashed in. Chicago went 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position Wednesday and 4-for-11 Tuesday, and that was enough to carry them through.

Now the White Sox head to Cleveland to face the Guardians on Saturday in the ALDS, trying to keep alive what looked impossible before the season began.

White Sox Linked To A Dream Ace Fans Wont Fully Believe

The White Sox spent this season trying to show they could move from rebuilding to relevant, and that naturally puts the focus on the kind of arm that can change a franchises direction. ESPNs Kiley McDaniel, citing MLB insiders, has floated Chicago as a potential sleeper in the race for free agent Tarik Skubal, a name that would instantly transform the conversation around the club if it ever got serious.

There is obvious logic to the fit. Chicago needs help in the starting rotation, and the recent postseason success gives the front office a more believable pitch than it might have had a year ago. The question, of course, is whether ownership would ever be willing to chase a deal that could climb into a range this steep, which is why the idea feels intriguing for White Sox fans and hard to fully picture at the same time. White Sox Are Trusting A Rookie With Their Biggest ALDS Gamble

The White Sox are leaning on Hagen Smith again as they open the ALDS, handing the rookie the Game 1 start against the Guardians after he already handled the Wild Card stage against the Astros. Smith gave Chicago three scoreless innings in that outing, and now he gets an even bigger assignment as the club turns the page to a Division Series that begins on the road.

Cleveland will host the first two games before the matchup shifts to Guaranteed Rate Field for Game 3, which only raises the pressure on Chicagos early choices in the series. For a team already willing to trust a rookie in a high-leverage spot, the opening stretch could set the tone for everything that follows. [Read more 🡒]

White Sox Playoff Run Just Delivered A Chicago School Incredible Surprise

Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvales friendly playoff wager ended up turning into a big day for a Chicago school. After the Houston Astros fell to the White Sox in the American League Wild Card Series, the bet kicked in and brought an unexpected reward for St. Gabriels Catholic School, which sits near Rate Field and now gets to be part of the postseason atmosphere.

All 190 students, along with some chaperones, will attend Game 3 of the American League Division Series between the White Sox and Guardians. The principal delivered the news to the students, and the reaction was exactly what you would expect from a group suddenly handed a trip to a playoff game - a rare, memorable surprise tied directly to a White Sox run that has already reached beyond the ballpark.
