Davis Martin is back with the White Sox, and he’s slotting straight into the club’s final push after a brief stint on the injured list for a blister on his right middle finger.
To clear the way, the White Sox sent Tanner McDougal back to Charlotte on Sept. 2. McDougal had been recalled when rosters expanded on Sept. 1, but the move proved short-lived once Martin was ready to return.
Martin’s last appearance in a White Sox uniform came on Aug. 13, when he was ejected after throwing two fastballs over the head of Cincinnati’s Sal Stewart. Martin said the pitches were the result of the blister, not any intent or anger at James Fegan working his last day for Sox Machine. He then made a rehab start for Charlotte on Friday and worked five easy innings on only 59 pitches.
The White Sox also made a bullpen move, sending Huascar Brazobán to Triple-A Charlotte to begin a rehab assignment as he works back from a left lat strain. Brazobán went on the injured list on Aug. 25, which makes him eligible to return in one week.
On the mound for Houston will be Hayden Wesneski, a familiar name from the other side of town. The White Sox haven’t seen him since 2024, when he was in the Cubs bullpen, though he did appear in back-to-back Crosstown Cup games in June. Chicago scored on him in both outings, including Paul DeJong’s game-tying homer on June 5.
DeJong is still active, or at least he was before going on the full-season injured list at Triple-A Toledo after a hamstring injury that required surgery in May.
