Spring Training Sparks: White Sox and Brewers Face Off
The Brewers are diving into split squad games, and their starting first baseman hopped on the bus from Maryvale, ready to play on the road. It's a testament to his dedication and drive.
In the White Sox clubhouse, spirits were high as Team USA clinched the Olympic gold in hockey with an overtime thriller. Players gathered around the TVs, celebrating Jack Hughes' game-winner over Canada. It's moments like these that remind us that athletes, no matter the sport, share a universal camaraderie.
Will Venable caught the last thrilling moments of the game, expressing his excitement, "It was awesome."
Switching gears to the diamond, Edgar Quero was eager to discuss his standout three-hit performance on Saturday. Known for his candidness, Quero didn't hold back about his impressive throw.
"That was sick," he said. "The guy had two steps on him.
Just see the ball and try to be quick. I made a perfect throw.”
Upcoming White Sox Schedule:
Munetaka Murakami is set for a busy week with four games in five days, starting at first base on Sunday, then DH on Monday, followed by a rest day, and back in action Wednesday and Thursday. Shane Smith, Anthony Kay, and Davis Martin will take the mound in the following days.
Venable, addressing the rotation, emphasized the open competition, particularly highlighting Mike Vasil's opportunity. "Certainly someone who’s deserved this opportunity to compete for a rotation spot," Venable remarked. "We like him in any spot, when he’s on the mound, we like what he can do."
Austin Hays Makes an Impact:
Austin Hays showcased his power in his Cactus League debut, sending a first-pitch fastball soaring for a home run. "The thing that gives me power at 190 pounds is that I rotate really fast and my hips clear," Hays explained. His reunion with hitting director Ryan Fuller from their Baltimore days has been pivotal, with Fuller’s video displays aiding Hays’ visual learning style.
Coaching Box Clarity:
The White Sox are seeking clearer guidelines on the enforcement of first and third base coaches staying within the coach's box. Venable noted the mixed messages from umpires but is hopeful for clarity. "It’s really going to be the depth or the proximity to the foul line and to home plate," he explained, ensuring coaches can perform their roles safely.
