Caleb Williams’ return to the Bears sideline on Monday didn’t go over the way he probably hoped.
Just days after the rookie quarterback went down in obvious pain against the Vikings, he was seen walking around without much trouble during Chicago’s game against the Eagles. That sight was enough to flip the reaction online fast, with fans ripping the body language they saw after Williams’ earlier exit.
The injury itself looked brutal in the moment. Williams rolled out to his left on a critical first-and-goal play, then suddenly felt something give in his right leg and went down on the wet turf.
He screamed in pain, grabbed high on the back of his thigh, and needed help from staff before being taken straight to the locker room on a medical cart. At first, plenty of Chicago fans feared the worst and thought he might have torn his Achilles.
An MRI later showed a Grade 2 hamstring strain, and the initial team outlook had him listed as week-to-week. The current expectation is that Williams will be out three to four weeks.
Still, the sideline footage from Monday quickly became a target for social media mockery. Fans zeroed in on how normal he appeared so soon after the injury and didn’t hold back.
“I’ve pulled a hamstring before, I’m not walking like this a week after,” one fan said.
