The Cubs' outfield seems pretty packed as Spring Training unfolds, but the buzz is that they've added another name to the mix: Michael Conforto.
Details about the deal are still under wraps. Whether it's a minor-league or major-league contract remains to be seen.
If it's the latter, the Cubs have options like placing Shelby Miller or Justin Steele on the 60-day injured list to make room for Conforto. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
Conforto, who turns 33 next Sunday, had a challenging season with the Dodgers last year, hitting just .199/.305/.333 with 12 home runs over 418 at-bats in 138 games. His performance led to him being left off the postseason roster.
Looking back at his time with the Mets from 2017 to 2019, Conforto showcased his potential, batting .257/.363/.492 with 88 home runs. However, a shoulder injury that sidelined him for the entire 2022 season has seen his production dip.
With several Cubs players set to participate in the World Baseball Classic, Conforto might be brought in as a temporary fill-in. It seems unlikely that he'll break into the Opening Day roster, but as always, baseball is full of surprises.
If he does make the team, a jersey number change will be in order. Stay tuned for further developments.
