The White Sox and Mets finished up their series at Guaranteed Rate Field on Sunday, and the baseball on the field wasn’t the only thing drawing attention.
A video posted by the X account @jwinesack66 captured a wild fight breaking out in the upper deck, with one fan in a black sweater leaping down from a higher row and landing what looked like a flying dropkick on another fan below. Both men slammed into the seats, and the scene quickly turned into a bigger melee.
“MASSIVE fight in upper deck at White Sox vs Mets game today,” the caption read. “Guy came in from the top rope.”
From there, the clip shows several more people jumping into the fray and throwing punches while other fans scramble to get out of the way. Security and stadium staff can be seen moving through the crowd as the confrontation spreads. The video lasts nearly two minutes and shows the brawl continuing well after the first collision before order is finally restored.
The reaction online was immediate. One commenter wrote, “So much for baseball being family oriented,” and added, “What’s going to happen one day is for a child to get injured and his or her dad is going to go downstairs and find something sharp or heavy and bring it back and do grave harm to the idiot that hurt his child.”
Another said, “It’s amazing there aren’t 10 deaths a year from fights in the stands at sporting events when people are throwing each other over rows of seats and dudes are going top rope from three rows up,”
The incident came just two days after another memorable moment from the Sox-Mets series, when Chicago’s Jake Rogers hit a walk-off homer and one fan’s celebration turned into a mess of spilled belongings in the bleachers. That fan was later identified as Emma Rodriguez, and with help from stadium staff and nearby fans, she was able to recover everything.
Fights in the stands at Guaranteed Rate Field have popped up before, including several viral brawls over the years, many involving the Cubs. This latest scene adds another ugly entry to that list, even though there’s still no official word on what set it off.
