Suns Fans Get An Early Look At A Rotation Battle Taking Shape

The Phoenix Suns look to refine their starting lineup and chemistry as they face the Chicago Bulls in their second preseason matchup.

The Phoenix Suns are sticking with the same starting five for their second preseason game against the Chicago Bulls, a group that gave them a strong early look in Monday’s opener before the Detroit Pistons rallied for a 109-107 win.

Phoenix had control from the jump against Detroit, building a 68-50 halftime lead behind a first unit that looked connected and efficient. But once the rotation got deeper, the game slipped away in the second half. Tonight offers another chance to sharpen the details and keep stacking reps ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Coach Jordan Ott said pregame the Suns will roll out the same starters they used against the Pistons. That includes Oso Ighodaro, who gets the nod again over Khaman Maluach as the two continue their battle for the starting center job after Mark Williams tore his labrum last month.

The opening five clearly did its job in the first preseason game, and Phoenix will now ask that group to stretch its minutes a little further. After only playing the first half on Monday, the starters are expected to get extra run against Chicago.

“We’ll extend those minutes a little bit more into the third (quarter),” Ott said after practice Tuesday (via The Arizona Republic's Duane Rankin). “That’s the plan right now.

Just continue to build up over the preseason. Continue the chemistry, getting along, building the relationships.”

That should give fans a better look at how this group functions when it spends more time together. Bridges was especially noticeable in his Suns debut, filling the box score in all the ways Phoenix needed - scoring, playmaking, defense and work on the glass - and he figures to be a major focus again.

There’s also the simple question of fit. With so many scorers in the starting lineup, the Suns will keep sorting out where everyone gets theirs, starting with Booker, who wants to be more of a scorer this season.

If the minutes are staggered a bit between Ighodaro and Maluach with the first and second units, tonight could also provide another useful data point in that competition. Neither big man made a strong enough case in the opener to lock down the job.

When Phoenix turns to the bench, the expectation is the energy level has to hold. The deeper group let the Pistons’ lead get away, and the Suns will want to avoid a repeat of that against Chicago.

Tipoff is set for shortly after 5 p.m. MST.

Matas Buzelis Sees A Different Bulls Team Taking Shape

Matas Buzelis opened training camp sounding like a young player who has already felt the difference between a team searching for answers and one trying to build something sturdier. After a season in which Chicago was sorting through change, the second-year forward said the tone around the organization has shifted, with more intensity and a clearer sense of purpose as the Bulls move through an overhaul and into a new phase of the rebuild.

Buzelis also spoke with the patience of someone focused on the long game, stressing that his own approach is to keep improving every day and help wherever he can. For a roster trying to establish itself, that matters as much as any single skill point. The real test now is whether the early signs of order and accountability can hold once the games start to pile up. [Read more 🡒]

Michael Jordan Weighed In On A Bulls Reality Fans Know Too Well

Michael Jordans latest remarks offered a familiar kind of reminder for Bulls fans: the game has changed around the franchise, but the standard he set has not. Speaking at the SBC Summit in Lisbon, Jordan said modern sports betting and the nonstop statistical noise of todays NBA would not have altered how he approached basketball. His emphasis, as ever, was on winning, studying opponents and staying locked in on the next challenge rather than getting pulled into everything swirling around the game.

Jordan also touched on how different the current landscape would feel for players now, with social media adding a layer of scrutiny his era never had to deal with. For a franchise still measured against his shadow, the comments hit on a reality Chicago knows well, even if the details of how he would navigate todays betting-heavy environment remain his to spell out another time. Bulls Preseason Opener Already Puts Their Rebuild Under Pressure

The Bulls are barely into preseason, and the mood around the opener against the Suns already feels more about survival than evaluation. Before the first practice even got going, Zach Collins was hurt, while Caleb Wilson and Matas Buzelis are expected to get the first look in the starting group as Chicago begins sorting through a roster that still has more questions than answers.

Chicago also moved quickly to address its depth, bringing in Jordan Hawkins to fill the last roster spot. The early injuries only sharpen the pressure on a team trying to make its rebuild look like progress, and the next few days will say plenty about how much the Bulls can learn before the games start counting for real.
