Matas Buzelis isn’t backing away from the Luka Doncic matchup - he’s leaning into it.
The Bulls forward revisited the March exchange with Doncic on the latest episode of Cousins with Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady, and the memory clearly still sits with him. In that second-quarter back-and-forth at Crypto.com Arena, Buzelis was jawing, Doncic took it personally, and the Lakers star went nuclear from there, finishing with 51 points in a 142-130 win.
Buzelis said the aftermath gave him a lesson, at least in the moment. After the game, he told himself it was best to “probably not to talk to him.”
But that didn’t end the matter for good. On the podcast, Buzelis made it clear he still wants another crack at Doncic - and another chance to answer back.
“You know, you guys talk shi** but that's just, you know, how I was raised to play basketball… Then he just started baking me bro like 12 in a row and I was like I don't care keep doing that like keep scoring like we'll see if you can keep scoring… And at half, I have 20… He has 22 at half,” Buzelis said. “So I'm chilling.
I'm right back at you, my boy. Yeah.
So I end with like 23. He ends with like 50… I was saying I'm probably not going to trash talk again to him, but I really don't care.
Like I'm going to do it again… I need my get back.”
Buzelis also said on the episode that he wants to stay with the Bulls for the rest of his career, and he spoke about the influence Kevin Durant has had on his confidence.
