When the Chicago Bulls picked Noa Essengue at 12th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, they were banking on uncovering a gem-a young talent with the potential to blossom as the team navigates its broader strategy. Yet, the early returns didn’t quite match the expectations. Essengue’s stint in the preseason saw him average just 4.2 points per game over five outings, and his rookie season didn’t offer much more in terms of playing time.
However, a glimpse at Essengue's performance in the G League tells a different story. During his four games with the Windy City Bulls, the French forward showcased why he was a top pick, putting up impressive averages of 23 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
But just as momentum was building, Essengue’s progress hit an unexpected roadblock. Early December saw his rookie season come to an abrupt end due to shoulder surgery. This setback halted his on-court development, leaving fans and the team eager for updates on his recovery journey.
Fast forward to now, and the 19-year-old is on the mend, working diligently to make his return. In a conversation with French sports outlet L’Équipe, Essengue shared his optimistic outlook on his recovery process.
“My surgery went very well. I was able to touch the ball again three weeks ago; I’m ahead of schedule,” he revealed.
“I’m going to stay in Chicago for the next few weeks. The goal is to be able to resume team training by the end of April.”
As the Bulls face another offseason without a playoff appearance, Essengue’s recovery and growth remain key storylines. His journey back to the court could be pivotal not just for his career, but for a franchise looking to redefine its future.
