The Sixers may have some real company if they want to keep Kelly Oubre Jr. in Philadelphia.
Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Iko reported that Oubre is expected to meet with the Pacers, Lakers, Trail Blazers, Sixers and others while he sorts through his next contract. After a productive run with Philadelphia, he’s drawing attention from multiple teams looking for wing help.
Oubre’s season with the Sixers was his best stretch of the year in a lot of the right ways. He averaged 14.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals across 50 games, and he knocked down 36.0 percent of his 3-pointers, the best mark of his career.
Indiana, in particular, sounds like a team to watch. Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal reported the Pacers are intrigued by Oubre because of his athleticism, transition ability and defensive versatility. Afseth also reported a deal in the neighborhood of two years and $16.5 million has been floated, though that kind of number could put Indiana into the luxury tax.
The Lakers have been mentioned too, but they’re believed to be focused more heavily on Quentin Grimes among their wing targets.
Detroit, meanwhile, is taking a firm stance on Jalen Duren. Marc J.
Spears of ESPN and Andscape reported the Pistons plan to match any offer sheet Duren receives in restricted free agency and do not want to go down the sign-and-trade road. Spears also said the Pistons believe they have made the most lucrative offer they can to the 22-year-old center.
Duren has every reason to command that kind of attention. He posted 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game this season while shooting 65 percent from the field. He also picked up his first All-Star nod and third-team All-NBA honors.
There are still questions about how that game translates in the playoffs, though. His numbers dipped in the postseason, and Detroit sometimes leaned on Paul Reed in the biggest moments.
On the Bulls side, there’s a bit of housekeeping. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Chicago has fully guaranteed Leonard Miller’s $2.41 million salary for next season.
Miller, who arrived from Minnesota in last season’s Ayo Dosunmu trade, averaged 11.7 points and 5.8 rebounds in 27 games.
Chicago also announced it has waived guard Kam Jones, who came to the Bulls in a draft-night deal with the Pacers.
