Jarred Tinordi Eyes NHL Return After Latest Career Twist

Veteran blueliner Jarred Tinordi eyes an NHL return after rehab, hoping experience and grit can earn him one more shot.

Jarred Tinordi isn’t ready to hang up the skates just yet.

The 33-year-old defenseman, who most recently suited up for the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers, has been cleared following off-season knee surgery and is eyeing a return to professional hockey. According to reports, Tinordi is actively looking to continue his playing career and remains an unrestricted free agent.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and known for his physical presence, Tinordi brings a rugged, stay-at-home style that’s become increasingly rare in today’s speed-and-skill driven game. Last season, he logged 30 games with the Wranglers, tallying one goal and four assists while racking up 29 penalty minutes and finishing with a plus-5 rating. While those numbers won’t jump off the page, they reflect the kind of depth, grit, and defensive reliability teams often look for in a veteran blueliner.

Before his stint in Calgary, Tinordi spent two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks. During that stretch, he played in 96 games, contributing two goals and 15 assists for 17 points.

But his real impact came in the dirty areas-he recorded 104 penalty minutes, 162 blocked shots, and 310 hits. That’s the kind of physical edge and willingness to sacrifice the body that coaches value, especially in depth roles or on penalty-kill units.

Tinordi hasn’t appeared in an NHL game since the 2023-24 season with Chicago, but his career résumé is a testament to persistence and adaptability. Over 205 career NHL games, spread across six different teams-the Canadiens, Coyotes, Predators, Bruins, Rangers, and Blackhawks-he’s posted four goals, 26 assists, 30 points, along with 298 blocks and 552 hits.

Now healthy and looking for his next opportunity, the Burnsville, Minnesota native is hoping there’s still a spot for a big-bodied, veteran defenseman who knows how to play within his role. Whether that opportunity comes in the NHL or another pro league remains to be seen, but Tinordi’s not done battling just yet.
