IceHogs Rally But Griffins Clinch Victory in Thrilling Finish

In a fiercely contested match, the IceHogs' spirited comeback bid was halted as the Griffins capitalized on key opportunities to secure a narrow victory.

In a hard-fought battle at the BMO Center, the Rockford IceHogs fell short against the Grand Rapids Griffins, losing 4-2. The Griffins took an early lead with some shorthanded magic. John Leonard broke away and deftly slipped the puck through Drew Commesso’s legs, putting Grand Rapids on the board first.

The IceHogs responded swiftly. At 15:49 in the first period, Jamie Engelbert set up Rem Pitlick in the slot. Pitlick, showcasing veteran poise, navigated the crease and found the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1.

The second period saw the Griffins reclaim the lead. Carter Mazur unleashed a wrist shot from the near dot, picking the top right corner with precision.

Yet, Rockford wasn't backing down. With just three minutes left in the period, Joey Anderson slipped one past Michal Postava, evening the score at 2-2.

The final period was where the Griffins pulled away. Ondrej Becher charged into the zone, executing a smooth backhand to put Grand Rapids ahead 3-2. As the clock wound down, Jakub Rychlovsky sealed the deal with an empty-netter, finalizing the score at 4-2.

Looking ahead, the IceHogs are set to hit the road, facing off against the Chicago Wolves on Saturday, March 21, at 7:00 p.m. at Allstate Arena. Fans will be eager to see if Rockford can bounce back in this upcoming matchup.
