Connor Bedard Shoulders Unexpected Blame After Blackhawks Fall to Predators

In a game where the Chicago Blackhawks fell short, Connor Bedard showcased his talent and leadership, unjustly taking on blame while emerging as a beacon of hope for the struggling team.

Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard took on more blame than necessary after their recent matchup against the Nashville Predators. Despite the team's 4-2 loss, Bedard's performance was nothing short of spectacular, proving once again why he's the cornerstone of the Blackhawks' future.

Currently sitting at 22-27-9 and in 29th place, the Blackhawks have found their beacon in Bedard, the first overall pick of 2023. On Thursday night, he showcased his dominance on the ice, scoring one of Chicago’s two goals.

It's clear Bedard has turned a corner this season, fulfilling the team's primary need for a standout player. Yet, in a display of humility, he shouldered much of the blame post-game, praising teammates Andre Burakovsky and Ryan Greene for their contributions.

"I thought Burakovsky and Greene were unreal tonight, like they have been all year, and making it real easy for me," Bedard said. "I think they set me up for five or six Grade-As. It's on me to put one more of those in, and maybe it's a different game."

While Greene has emerged as a solid component of the top-six line, he's not expected to be a leading scorer. Burakovsky, after a strong start to the season, has seen a dip in form, yet remains a fixture on the top line under coach Jeff Blashill.

Bedard’s acknowledgment of his linemates is commendable, but it was his play that truly drove the line’s success. He consistently positioned himself for those prime scoring chances he mentioned.

His hunger for scoring is evident, a trait that will likely see him maintain a point-per-game pace throughout his career. Although Nashville's late goal sealed the game's fate, Bedard's performance was a highlight, marking his 24th goal of the season-a new personal best.

With his current trajectory, Bedard is on pace for 36 goals, with an outside shot at 40, a feat that seemed likely before a shoulder injury in December. Regardless, his impressive tally is sure to boost his confidence heading into the offseason.

Bedard’s drive and talent continue to shine, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting future for both him and the Blackhawks.
