Blackhawks Prospects Poised to Make Waves in Chicago This Season

As the NHL trade deadline nears, the Chicago Blackhawks eye promising prospects who could soon make their mark on the big stage.

The Chicago Blackhawks are gearing up for an intriguing stretch as they head to Nashville to take on the Predators on February 26. But the real buzz is around the 2026 Trade Deadline on March 6. With names like Connor Murphy and Ilya Mikheyev swirling in trade talks, the question arises: who steps up if they’re moved?

Kevin Korchinski: A Promising Prospect

Kevin Korchinski is no stranger to the Windy City, having already made several appearances with the Blackhawks. At just 18, he played a full season because he wasn’t eligible for the AHL. Recently called up on February 18, it seems this stint is more about practice, especially with Sam Rinzel also making the jump from Rockford.

Now 21, Korchinski has been honing his skills with the IceHogs, notching 23 points in 45 games. His brief two-game appearance with the Blackhawks showcased his growth, particularly in positioning and overall play, even earning an assist. With Rockford excelling in developing defensemen, Korchinski’s progress is clear, and he’s poised for a longer look if Murphy is traded.

Nick Lardis: Ready for the Call

Should Mikheyev or any forward be on the move, Nick Lardis is the name to watch. Lardis made a splash when injuries hit the Blackhawks, putting to rest any doubts about his transition from a 71-goal season with the Brantford Bulldogs in the OHL.

In 21 NHL games, he tallied five goals and two assists, making every second of his average 12:39 ice time count. Coach Jeff Blashill expressed his satisfaction with Lardis’ performance.

After returning to the AHL due to a surplus of forwards, Lardis continued to impress at the AHL All-Star Week, showcasing his skills with a standout shootout goal. He’s been a dominant force for the IceHogs, and it’s only a matter of time before he’s back in a Blackhawks jersey.

Anton Frondell: A Rising Star

Drafted third overall last year, Anton Frondell is making waves in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with Djurgardens IF. At 18, he’s racked up 15 goals and 22 points in 36 games. His World Junior Championship performance for Sweden was stellar, with five goals and eight points in seven games, including a game-winning shootout goal against Finland.

While it’s uncertain if Frondell will join the Blackhawks this season, he’s expected to head to Rockford after his SHL commitments. There’s no rush in his development, but if he continues to excel, a late-season call-up could be on the cards. His potential addition could also influence power play strategies, possibly moving Connor Bedard to accommodate Frondell’s prowess on the right side.

These young talents are just the beginning of what could be an exciting era for the Blackhawks. With several prospects waiting in the wings, the future at the United Center looks bright.
