Blackhawks Add New Goalie Ahead Of Reset

Blackhawks bolster their roster with a promising goaltender addition as they regroup after a grueling road stretch.

Blackhawks Return to Practice

The Chicago Blackhawks hit the ice at the Blackhawks Ice Center for their first full practice since mid-March. With a packed schedule post-Olympics and a string of road games, finding time for practice has been a challenge for Jeff Blashill and his coaching crew. This session marked their first opportunity for an in-depth practice since March 16.

Top Line Stays Intact

Despite a tough outing against the Winnipeg Jets, Blashill is sticking with his top line of Ryan Greene, Connor Bedard, and Nick Lardis as they prepare to face the Edmonton Oilers. While the trio hasn't quite clicked yet, Blashill sees potential.

“Lards and Greener are in a great spot playing alongside Connor,” Blashill noted. “Connor’s playmaking ability is undeniable, as we saw last night when he set up some prime scoring chances.

Lards has been smart, putting himself in the right positions. He’s been close to scoring, and once those chances start going in, we’ll be thrilled.”

Injury Updates

Andrew Mangiapane took to the ice in a non-contact jersey, participating in some fourth-line drills. Although he’ll travel with the team, he’s ruled out for the upcoming game against his former team.

Meanwhile, Oliver Moore was seen on the bench during practice. Blashill hasn’t ruled out his return this season, but if it happens, it’ll be near the end.

Goaltending Prospect Signs

The Blackhawks added depth to their goaltending by signing Adam Gajan to a two-year contract starting next season, running through 2027-28. The 21-year-old had a rough freshman year at the University of Minnesota-Duluth but bounced back impressively in his sophomore season. In 33 games, he recorded 19 wins, two shutouts, a 2.25 GAA, and a .908 SV%.

Gajan will finish this season with the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL under an amateur tryout contract. Keep an eye out for him potentially representing Slovakia at the IIHF World Championships this spring.
