Pete Crow-Armstrong Explains Why Chicago's So Special

As anticipation builds for a promising season, Pete Crow-Armstrong's candid commentary energizes Cubs fans and echoes a renewed drive toward playoff glory.

The Chicago Cubs are stepping into spring training with a renewed sense of ambition and confidence. For the first time since their 2016 championship run, expectations are high for this big-market team. Owner Tom Ricketts has made it clear: after a 92-win season that ended in divisional round disappointment, the goal is nothing short of another World Series title.

Leading the charge is star center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, or PCA as fans affectionately call him. In just two years, PCA has become the face of a rising Cubs squad.

His electrifying first half in 2025, with a 131 wRC+, had him in MVP conversations, and his 30-30 season showcased his dynamic talent. Beyond the stats, his charisma and style of play have made him a fan favorite.

Whether he's cheering on the Bulls and Blackhawks or hanging out with Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, PCA embodies Chicago pride. But nothing thrills him more than postseason baseball.

In a revealing interview with Chicago Magazine, PCA opened up about his passion for the game. Reflecting on the Cubs' playoff run, particularly Game 4 against the Brewers, he spoke about the city’s energy and the thrill of postseason baseball.

“I saw what bringing playoff baseball back to the city meant,” he shared. "That’s an easy, immovable goal.

The f*** are you playing for if you’re not trying to play in the playoffs and win the World Series? There’s more to life than baseball, but maybe not for me right now.

This s*** is my life.”

Before PCA's arrival, the Cubs seemed hesitant to fully commit to constant World Series contention. The 2021 sell-off marked the start of a rebuild, including the pivotal trade sending Javier Baez to the Mets for Crow-Armstrong. Instead of rushing back into contention, Jed Hoyer and the front office took a patient approach, focusing on building the next great Cubs team.

That cautious era seems to be over. Despite losing Kyle Tucker to the Dodgers, the Cubs made significant offseason moves, bringing in Edward Cabrera, Phil Maton, and Alex Bregman with a $175 million deal.

These acquisitions signal a shift in strategy, positioning the Cubs as favorites to win the National League Central for the first time since 2020. The message is clear: it’s time to win.

PCA is central to this mission. His Gold Glove defense in center field is invaluable, but his focus is on improving his on-base percentage.

Bregman’s leadership could be key in helping PCA refine both his physical and mental game. With his sky-high potential, PCA’s performance will be crucial to the Cubs’ success.

One thing is certain: PCA is a true baseball lifer, driven to reach his peak. And with any luck, that journey will culminate in a World Series trophy.
