Williams recently sat down with Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby on "The Rush with Maxx Crosby," where they delved into various topics. While Crosby had plenty of praise for Williams, ESPN NFL analyst Louis Riddick offered some insights into what Williams needs to elevate his game from good to elite-a leap many expect to see in 2026.
Riddick emphasized, "The jump they are expecting him to make is in efficiency and consistency. You can't be last in the NFL in completion percentage or a sub-60% thrower.
Missing wide-open throws can't be the norm if you want to climb into the top 10. Williams was 16th in QBR this year, so he's right at the midpoint.
To break into that elite category, he needs to make the routine plays consistently while still delivering those highlight-reel moments. If he does, both he and the Bears will get what they’re aiming for in elite quarterback play."
Williams' accuracy has been a hot topic in NFL circles. Everyone sees his potential, but this one area is holding him back from joining the ranks of the best. Last season, he completed just 58% of his passes, a dip from his rookie year in 2024.
Despite this, Williams led the Bears to an impressive 11-6 record, clinching the division and setting a franchise record with 3,942 passing yards. He threw only seven interceptions over 17 games and notched up 30 total touchdowns. Yet, the focus remains on improving his accuracy.
