Dave Portnoy and Caleb Williams have landed in a fresh back-and-forth, and it all started after the Chicago Bears quarterback left the Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings in tears.
Williams was carted off the field while giving the crowd a thumbs-up, a moment that made the injury look far worse at first glance. Once the medical update came back and the issue was described as a minor hamstring strain, Portnoy went after the reaction on Wake Up Barstool.
“The man tweaked his hammy and acted like both ACLs, MCLs, and everything else… What are we doing here?” Portnoy said.
Williams answered by reposting a tweet that called Portnoy soft, then shared another post from an X account named Daemar that took aim at Portnoy with a much sharper line: “The guy that had a kid arrested and expelled from school for throwing pennies at him is calling someone else soft LMFAOOOOOO.”
That comment pointed back to a 2025 incident in Mississippi, when a college student yelled antisemitic slurs and threw coins at Portnoy during a pizza review. The student was later arrested for disturbing the peace and then withdrew from his university.
Portnoy noticed the repost and hit back at Williams, accusing him of spreading disinformation on social media. He rejected the idea that he had personally gotten the student arrested or kicked out of school, and instead called the student a moron who threw items at him on camera during the live review, adding, “play stupid games, win stupid prizes.”
Even with the online dust-up, Portnoy said he wouldn’t hold the repost against Williams. He still took another swipe at the quarterback, though, saying Williams was in his feelings after tweaking his hamstring and mocking the way the injury was handled. Portnoy also said he couldn’t wait to see number 18 back on the field this week after that “season-ending injury.”
